oh my..you really have bad luck with your K200.
I see that in another thread you are looking into the K30D. I think it is a great camera, a great choice, besides the K-01 it must be the best Pentax for manual focus lenses and for the price it sells it's a great bargain

however Mo I should note to you that i am considering to sell my K-x. Right now I am in Vietnam and shipping from here is crazy but in about 2 weeks from now a dear Australian friend of mine, also photographer, will be going home. So in case you are interested he most likely would do me the favor and carry it to send it to you from Tasmania. My K-x has a opti bright Katzeye split screen installed Wink ( and i carry the original split screen in the Katzeye case and would send it too )

cheers, andreas

K-x is a huge leap forward from K200D, especially in low light...Still comparable to any APS-C sized camera.

Hi Kuuan, Yes sadly this K200D has not been a great camera because of these last 2 break downs. It only has at a rough guess 10,000 actuation's on it.I still however would recommend it as a great camera, to anyone wanting to buy this Pentax model. As I have "loved" using this camera....you know your first DSLR "love"... Laughing Now I have to go and find a replacement a reluctant journey....but I need to move on.

I really, really appreciate your offer, but I have held a K-X in my hand and I did not like the lightness of the body...can I apologize ahead of time for being fussy when it comes to how a camera feels in the hand. You can PM me the details if you would like, but the other point is I do not have paypal.....so it may be a waste of your time.I have seen what you can do with that camera so I know how great an image it can take...in your capable hands!

Hi Mo,

for me handling too is of outmost importance, a major reason why I had chosen a Pentax Wink So this is not being fussy at all but imo being reasonable or clever!

my first dSLR was the *istDs which, even though that meant forsaking SR, I chose over a K100D which would not have cost me any dearer. Reason was that I liked the smaller, less wide but more compact body of the *ist and how it felt in my hand so much better!
The K-x with an almost identical body was the logical upgrade, fit me better than the K200D which has a more similar body to the K100D.
Obviously ergonomics is a personal matter too Wink

I guess we could find a solution for the payment, my Aussi friend will come back to Vietnam soon where we plan to meet during July..but I will save me the work to send you more details because I hope that you will find the camera that fits you better.

have you any chance to handle a K30? I really like it's handling, better than that of the K5 which is famed for good handling, and slightly better than the K-x, but that mostly because of it's 2 wheels, otherwise the K-x just fits me perfectly well. As you note IQ of the K-x is very good, latest APS-C sensors just barley surpass it. But the K30D more importantly has a bigger viewfinder and focus peaking which supposedly is superior to that on a NEX!

wish you all the best success to getting the camera that fits you best.
regards, andreas

What a pity, Mo.
I realize the warranty for the repair is over, isn't it?.
A strange issue. Mine has a failure that doesn't allow the usage of the autofocus and any mode other than "M", Also the internal display is not working, but everything else goes fine. The green button works, so I'm fine with it for manual focusing lenses.
Once I got used to it, I didn't find the need for repairing it.
I agree with you, the K-x neither the K-r have the same touch feeling. The K-01 is quite cheap these days, the sensor is the same than the one in the K-5, has focus peaking and works really well, but I miss the ergonomy of the standard DSLRs and the viewfinder. K-30 is nice, it might be a nice replacement option.

In my case, I keep using the faulty K200D until it eventually dies... Although I haven't seen any symptoms so far Wink.

Good luck with the decission, and you know my offer, is still valid Wink
