Hi Andy, that's the same I was experiencing, it's related to the picture size. Please try with a smaller one. The max size is 900x768.
With smaller pictures I've been able to upload without problems.

No, there is a limit set of 768*900 and the images are resized to that.
I think that Attila can rise the image size limit, just like he did lower it.
Then of course the 768*900 pixels limitation in the normal gallery will remain, it will just have to be respected by posters instead of having the "software policeman"
