Today I tried my tamron with doubler on my 40D, it is like a 1000mm on a full frame.
It's easy to use up to F11 (eq to F22 with doubler)
The Ef-s make in focus a game
Now for the quality; it is very bad for what I am used to
The sample look nice and it's the danger with web photo, everything look nice
On the other hand 1000mm for 100 euros is a bargain
samples are not sharpened

For a 2x tele-converter I don't think you've got anything to cmplain about Wink

Hello poilu!

Was it a cheap M42 2x or a canon EF extender? In a webgallery it's perfect, as I see. Maybe after mastering it's good for print. Isn't it? Now I'm looking for a Tamron 54B, your opinion would be important for me.

Sorry, not M42 certainly, maybe Tamron 2x or ...

Hi Csaba
The Tamron 54B is a very good portrait lens
[Edit] I was mean 52B SP 90mm F/2.5 for good portrait lens, 54B 300mm is too long and F5.6 too small to be a portrait lens
The 54B is too long for me and usually stay home

Today I used a tamron sp doubler.
The big problem is your 350D, 5.6 and doubler was very dark on my 400D almost unusable.
This doubler don't give good result and lot of CA
It can be a solution for someone who need such focal lens
For the quality I don't know what you are used for
here is a 100% crop of the first shot not sharpened 400asa so you can check if it is enough for you

Thank you very much poilu! I'll try with an EF extender, i think it is much better. CA surely, sharpness maybe. But first I need an 54B Smile For web -with a little mastering - this is enough surely! Nice pictures, thanks.

For a 1000m I expected to see the moon or something similar, but to build a 1000mm lens for plants and lezards that's weird.

I did NOT expect this kind of quality when I opened up the post. Sure, it's not exactly fantastic -- but considering what you used (2x doubler), it's truly workable and just plain nice.

This kind of lizard don't let me approach less than 2m.
I need this focal for this kind of portrait. Look what I get with a 200mm
Also for the wasp (guępe), many prefer not to approach to much.

p.s: Ou elle sont tes photos petit malin? Je voudrais bien voir quelques lézards canadiens Smile

Good or not good ?
I'm waiting for my copie of this 300mm SP (but without 2x extender), some comments make me wonder if i made a mistake Smile

Hi Nelson
The tamron 300 without the extender is definitely a top lens
My comments have to do with the extender and it is just a warning
By looking a the web photo someone could think the tamron with 2x extender has the same quality than a 600mm lens
The tamron 300 is better than my sigma 135-400 Apo, the only lens I have in this focal to compare
Congrats for your new lens and don't forget to post some nice shots

If you are a Canon user, maybe the 1.4 extender will be a really good solution. 420mm focal length about f6.3 or f8 is not bad, and much sharper then 2x. But sigma, kenko 1,4, 2x exist on the market I think not only for Canon.

Nelson, if Rob Leslie were around he would give you a very good report on this lens. This thread last May will give you some information:

as soon as i get the lens i'll try to do some shoots to them post here.

To come, a comparaison 300 SP 5.6 vs Tamron 670Au 300 f5.6 vs TAIR 3s vs... Sigma 70-300 APO AF Smile

Here is a comparison between tamron sp 300 & the zoom sigma 135-400 apo.
More info of the zoom here

I used liveview, 100% crop not sharpened
You can see the yellow of sigma I dislike
F5.6 & F8

F11 : tamron is better than the sigma

Now it's comprehensible because first I thought that you are some kind of tamer playing with that W.A.S.P. ( white, anglo-saxon protestant). Twisted Evil
Quant aux lezards canadienes, tabarnaque, ils sont bien caches, parceque le printemps est encore tres, tres eloigne ( pas d'accent, je sais, j'suis un paresseux).

Tamron seems to improve a lot stopping down and has more natural colors.

Surprising just how much difference there is in the Tamron from wide open to f8.

You right Patrick, you catch me Laughing
I choose a different zone that I had focused because the difference was more significant.
In fact I tested more the border performance
I don't think difference have to do with DOF
