Ex-Rat Contax II shipping from Ukraine ....

My delayed ' rat ' Contax II , re-engineered by ex-Kiev techs in Kiev is on it's way .

Heavily brassed , leather in tatters / missing , it was a proper wreck , sold as spares or project .

I had the paint removed and the bare metal polished and laquered [ I had tried this on my long sufering late Kiev 4 which is currently bare ! ] with new textured tan leather .

The picture sent to me shows that the bare metal is somewhat crude , which fits in perfectly with the brassed chrome .

Even better , I am reliably informed that it is one of the most quiet and smooth to be restored by the Arsenal guys [ who loved working on my Contaxes ] I like the fact that it is economical to restore / repair a Contax in Ukraine . It would cost 3 x as much from an approved Contax specialist - and spares are plentiful if a little cross contamination is accepted . In fact , just screws and a spring did not originate from Germany .

It will be a companion to my Kiev shuttered Contax II rebuilt from a box of parts .

That's two Contax cameras saved from the parts bin ! Four if I count my Contax III from two rough examples , one recreated with Kiev 4 top plate still in Ukraine .
