Maybe it is just an early version of what later became the Jupiter-8? The 49 serial may mean it was made in 1949 so it was probably made by Zeiss employees, possibly from Zeiss glass, it is likely to be a clone of the Sonnar 2/50. I have a 55 serial J-8 in M39 and a similar age J-8 in Contax/Kiex mount, I will have to dig that one out and take a pic of it as I think it looks very similar to this lens you have.

Attila's lens looks to be a rigid version - is that so? I'm no expert on these older USSR lenses but they do seem to be an interesting subject.

Here (the Krasnogorsky lens production calatog from 1949) they say that already have produced that lens from 1947
http://www.zenitcamera.com/catalog/catalog-lenses-1949.html

and they have started making glass from 52 (at leas this says on the J12 page) http://www.zenitcamera.com/archive/lenses/jupiter-12.html

If it is made prior 1952 there is a good chance that the glass is German made.

it looked to me a copy of Sonnar 2/50 at first sight.
Might be even better than Jupiter-8 probably, due to using original Zeiss components.

Might be, but a good J-8 quiet unbeatable and many early J8 made from also from Zeiss parts.

Let we see.
