OK just for fun which are your favourite SLR/ Lens combinations and why?

To Start off mine are
1 Fujica STX1 55mm F1.6
2. Cosina CSM Helios 58mm f2 (was the first combo I really used)
3. Canon AE1p 135mm f3.5 (the cam I replaced the first with after it was stolen it too got stolen)
I have others that I enjoy using I actually prefer using the original AE1, though no of the others tug my heart strings in the same way. I love the Fuji 55mm 1.6 and tend to use it the most. I have a Spotmatic and a Konica on the way so maybe things will change or the list added to. I am a big fan of the 50mm area of lens and I could live with just that focal length.

Pentax K1000 and a Carl Zeiss Jenna 180 f/2.8 red MC.

Ah it's horses for courses for me and a boring reply...anywhere important in the UK and using flash and it's the Canon T90, anywhere abroad where flash is to be used it's the Canon T70 and sunny days in the UK or abroad I'm like a woman choosing what shoes or handbag for the day as I select what camera and lens I fancy for a shoot, but usually Canon, Minolta, Konica, Praktica or Pentax S3 (for screw lenses that I can't use on other cameras).

Nikon FA +20mm f2.8 Nikon AIS

Full featured, perfect camera with a stunning wide lens.

Konica FT-1 + Konica UC 15mm f2.8

Built in motor drive, small + an amazing fisheye lens sharp from 1m to infinity.

Fujica ST801 + Tomioka 21mm f3.5 M42

Great little camera M42 + a rare excellent wide lens.

Finally I not like much 35mm SLR Wink I enjoy lot more medium format and 35mm range finder cameras.

Pentax SV with Mir-1.

fun to read what members enjoy shooting.

my present favorite combo is konica tc-x and hexar 40/1.8 because it is the ilghtest, most compact combo i can find for street shooting, and yet yields superior results as well.

i also really enjoy my kodak retina iv, probably with either the schneider 35/2.8 or 85/4 depending on the situation. holding the kodak to me is truly like holding a piece of history, and the schneider lenses are both compact amd very underrated in terms of quality.

finally, i guess it would be my ep2 with either the cv snapshot skopar 25/4, which is just so tiny and sharp that i am always pleased with result, or the cv heliar 75/2.5 because its one of the strongest IQ lenses ive ever used. at 150mm with the crop factor, its great for wandering wildlife or feeding birds, or outdoor portraits.

Contax AX with Planar 1.4/50 or Vario-Sonnar 3.4/35-70 or an old
RTS with the small Tessar 2.8/45

whatever body is great, such big luminous viewfinder!

I can't decide between Pentax Spotmatic F or Pentax Spotmatic ESII. Leaning toward the F.

with Pentax SMC Takumar 1:1.4 50mm

The 'buttery smooth' focus ring and overall build of of Takumars is legendary. Well, the Spotmatic cameras are like that too. A pleasure to use.

Spotmatics are M42 cameras.

I have these loaded with color film;
Rolleiflex SL35M with the Planar f1.8 50

Olympus OM 1 with the 28mm and 200mm

Spotmatic F with a bunch of m42 lenses

Minolta SRT 202 with Minolta 35-70 f3.5 zoom
I have this one loaded with B&W;

Yashica FX-3 super with the ML 50 f1.9

...but I shoot mostly medium format and Kiev 4m rangefinder

Konica FT-1 with 4/21 Hexanon, shot a roll with it the other day and it's such a beautiful combo.

I suppose with me it is a matter of a) what's newest in my collection & in best shape and b) what I'm using at the moment, as I'm not sure I really hate any of my cameras... well, the more classic manual focus ones anyway.

I'm getting a huge kick out of the Miranda D / Soligor 5cm PAD lens. The image quality is very good and the external PAD mechanism and front shutter is just simply fun.

To my surprise, as normally I like small and light over big and heavy, I really enjoy the Minolta XE's. In my case, as the 5 is freshly CLAd and in buttery smooth shape, I like it over the 7. The CLC works great (at least as long as you're shooting horizontal) and the camera operation is just so smooth. The MD 50/1.7 has some magic and the 35-70 is the sharpest zoom I've ever seen.

It's a Pentacon 6 mount 180 and huge. You should see the looks I get when using it in public on the K1000!! LOL I need to shoot someone with that look on their face! Laughing Laughing Surprised me how sharp it is too with film. I've been using it and the 300 CZJ on my digital but I'm having more fun right now with the Film cameras. Just need to shoot some slides and see how they scan as my negative scans have a lot to be desired as yet.

This is the sort of shock/fear/bemusement you might see big dawg, I approached this friend of mine wielding a colossal Rathenower Optische Werke projector lens on my EOS 10D, even larger than a Tair-3C!

Canon AE-1 non-program
Canon FL 50mm f3.5 macro

PostPosted: Tue Dec 20, 2011 9:32 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

At present I have film loaded in three cameras -

Minolta X-700 with MD 3.5/35-70 and Portra 160VC
I'm testing this camera out but I already like the X-500 better

Pentax SP F with S-M-C Takumar 1.4/50 and Provia 100F

Zenit E with Helios 44-2 2/58 and Ilford PanF+
I'm really astonished with this old camera - the selenium meter is spot on and the shutter and wind-on are silky smooth and quiet - truly Leica-like! Smile

PostPosted: Tue Dec 20, 2011 10:01 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Many Zenits work like that, often they weren't used a great deal by their original owners.

I prefer Minolta XE-1 (black) with 50mm 1.4 or 100mm 3.5 macro.
