I've just been shooting around my property trying to get used to manual focusing with the standard matte screen. It's a little difficult with a fast lens. Although very bright and big, it lacks contrast. The "M" screen should be here tomorrow though and it's an easy switch.
I've probably made less than 100 actuations so it's still a new feeling/experience.
I used the Jupiter 9 seen in this post: http://forum.mflenses.com/portrait-f2-jupiter-9-black-75-velvia-50-fujica-az-1-t38470.html with an un-chipped kipon adapter (which I highly recommend!). I ordered a chipped version from http://eadpt.com
Anyways, I didn't change any of the default settings in Camera Raw so I'm not exactly sure how 'straight-from-camera' these are but this is my first post using the a850 so I figured I'd show members what I'm getting:

They look like you picked up some cracking lenses, I have just started with a Jupiter 11a, and i keep looking at the 9 lustfully and hope i can pick one up cheap.
I love the colours and contrast very nice and lovely bokeh.
The more images i see from these cheap jupiters, I suspect that soon people will be bumping the prices up much more.
P.S I also shoot Sony, the A700.
I personally chose the sony for the following reasons
Quality of glass from old Minoltas,
SSS (image stabilization in body)
Dynamic Range
Cost of Sony cameras VS Canikon. |

The lenses really surprised me. The Jupiter 11A is just WOW. I know people praise it in this forum already but I tried it a few times before on my film cameras and never got results like this:
I think this camera will reinvigorate my love for photography. There is nothing like a few bad or so-so rolls of film in a row to really turn you off especially at ~$10 each (film + dev).
I got the sony for:
mirror clearance
IS (which I currently can't take advantage of but will soon)
viewfinder
ergonomics felt better to me compared to canon
One of my friends commented that the second dog picture looks like a pose that someone would do for a book jacket picture under the biographical blurb. I thought that was really funny. So if my dog ever writes a book, I guess we'll know what picture to use. |

I don't quite agree with this, even if it's off topic. I understand the fact that it costs, and you don't have proper results. Then photography needs time, might it be film or digital.
Even if i have a dslr, i shoot as much film, and do developing ( which costs really nothing ) and printing, which is really enjoyable.
I enjoy photo even more : ) hope you'll go back to film ! _________________ Happy owner and user of :

Very, very nice images. Handsome dog! A perfect model.
Welcome to the digital side of things. Your J9 images still have that excellent film look.
I developed my own film for years until it almost killed me. Still, I miss printing in my darkroom. But digital makes sense.
Shoot all the time, all you want. No cancer from the fumes.
Lovely post. |

Thank you very much. I can't wait to try my older J9s. I think they'll be even better. You have been getting great results with yours!
And yes, I'd agree they do have a film look. While researching the Sony that was a comment about the sensor that I came across quite a bit. |

Ah, I missed the FF thing. Such an irrelevance (for me) I never remember which cameras are FF and which not.
One reason I like this forum so much is that it is less wedded to the Canikon oligarchy that some others I tried in the past.

In my little opinion, the combination of the Sony and Jupiter is gorgeous.
Simply breathtaking contrast and clarity. And a lot of that has to do with
the photographer as well. TRULY a wonderful purchase. _________________
