This week I bought a silver Pentax *ist DL. It was described as defective; shots at high ISO show horizontal lines. I offered 25 EUR and that was accepted, so I took the plunge.

Today I received the camera and this was at ISO 3200:

1.

Oops, not good. Let's try ISO 200 (base ISO):

2.

Much better. Exacly what I thought and hoped for. I don't see strange things up to ISO 800, so I now have a nice backup camera for peanuts. Not bad, eh?

6.

For the lovers of digital cameras: here it is, standing next to its silver cousin, the older Pentax *ist DS. The most apparent difference is that the DL has a bigger screen, but it also has a worse viewfinder (no glass pentaprism but a pentamirror).

Laughing Very nice Peter and good thinking who needs the higher ISO as much as the lower.

Congratulations for you, Peter, but I have to admit that I feel sorry for the poor guy. It feels a bit heavy on him...

your two colored *ist cameras look gorgeous, specially with these silver lenses mounted..which hardly came so cheap Wink

Peter, that was simply a GREAT catch! I LOVE seeing the two "brothers"
together like that.

It is interesting that your blue bells are exactly in the same stage of
bloom as ours. You are much farther north, but I'm wondering if there
is a warm ocean current that moderates your weather?

and Peter, you have had my hugely impressed by your focusing skills. Now I see that there is no viewfinder magnifier on either of your *ist, and if I remember you just use the stock screen on your *istDs, very likely there only is a stock screen in your *istDl Shocked Shocked Shocked

Congrats!. A nice cam, that I like very much, and after your shots it seems really useable. Which lens did you use for the first shot?.
Quality is impressive.

Enjoy it!.

Jes.

Thanks Jes. The first shot was made with the SMC Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited. One of the sharpest lenses I have and one of my favorite walkaround lenses.

From your words, I understood that you bought this camera from someone who believed it to be defective. Sorry if I misunderstood!

No, you understood it right. He knew that the camera performed great at low ISO's, but in his opinion the camera was defective anyway (and in a sense it is). And he stated this clearly in his ad. I did not tell him that I'm an avid low-ISO shooter though Laughing
