Yeah, I took mine out for the first time in several months the other day, and a casual snap shot reminded me of how special it was... I also had on me a Trioplan 100/2.8 that day, and while that made some instersting images, one shot with the Apo-Lanthar showed that the two were on entirely different planes of existence.

Great lens indeed. I am personally not very fond of the totally washed out smooth backgrounds. But I reckon that especially in some context, like scientific pictures, these are much wanted to single out elements from the context.

Rawhead, great picture! Surprised

Orio, of course it would be nice to have some more "body" in the picture. But I was not specifically looking for smooth backgrounds; it's more or less a given in some macro shots where the distance between the background and the subject is too large. The same happens with many of my bird shots (made with my SMC Pentax-F* 250-600/5.6). Stopping down more is not always the solution because of the minimum usable shutter speed. But why am I telling you this? You know this very well! Smile

Anyway: the macro season has just begun so I'm sure I will soon have a few other samples that are more to your taste Wink

Excellent photos, I really need to take mine out as well and shoot something else with it than the daily product macros and portraits in my studio.

Just to specify - I know Klaus' has no relation to seller whatsoever and he clearly posted it just out of interest because that lens so rarely sells on eBay.

A few comments on the eBay listing

1. Item is in Taiwan, seller location United Kingdom according to profile. Don't eBay rules forbid to sell stuff that isn't in your hands?

The Canon mount is also said to be the rarest and most valuable of the different mounts that this lens was produced in.
<-- This is totally wrong (PK-A, C/Y, M/MD and O/OM etc. rarer, and definitely not the most valuable, Nikon mount versions sell for a lot more). People who own this lens are not ignorant about its history of production, especially not when they know how to price it (very high). Possibly that's just salesman's "boosting of truth" of course.

3. Strange that the owner does not describe whether lens is a Canon FD or an EF mount version, with or without Voigtländer supplied adapter...

I would not bid on this, I hear warning bells ringing too loud

Bokeh characteristics are variable, and I'm one of those that like 'em all. Smooth buttery to swirly crazy Smile

What just hit me in the head hard with that shot was the resolution of the in-focus area. *THAT* is something I don't see so much of with my other "bokeh" machines shot wide open Smile

This is an insane price for a lens that originally sold for less than $1000.
This is why I chose to go with the Zeiss 2/100 Makro Planar.
I think that sooner or later, Voigtländer will reissue the lens and we will be able to get it at half-price...
