I took it out last night for a quick play in the rose garden next door.It was early evening and overcast so the F stops would have been between 4-8.I am very happy with this lens. The roses are just bursting with colour and that seems to overwhelm the camera or the lens as the reds just seem to blur and come through so intense on my screen that you seem to lose definition of the petals.
#1 The constant rain has caused some damage on the roses so they are not as pretty as they could be but the fragrance is awesome from the whole garden.

#2 I was trying to isolate these three roses by getting them all on the same focal plane (is that achievable?)

#3

#4

#5

#6 I love this one even though the focus is off, as to get these two sitting together is very rare...Daughter with the collar and mum.It may have had something to do with the magpie swooping them as individuals that they hung close together...LOL

Thanks for any C&C.

Very nice pictures, Mo. Congratulations!

Your cats look meagre, are you sure to give them enough food? Laughing

very nice Mo!

the reds..my K-x definitely sometimes has problems with reds, not so my *istDs.

the 55 Tak, it was the ONLY lens a flickr contact of mine had taken with him on a trip to Burma. He used it with film, on a Spotmatic though ( and also had brought along a Kowa 6 medium format )
see this pic which he subtitled 'I love the 55mm takumar'

the following pics are taken with the 55 too

Thanks kuaan those images were superb.
Interesting about the K-x,I have to make a note on what lenses this occurs with and with what light.
See these two examples, how do they look to you?

hm..I am not the right person to ask, my experience lacks too much
but yes, on the second the red roses seem a bit like cut out. I wonder if downing the saturation of red would help.

the K-x sometimes looks overwhelmed by reds, one time gave me freakish, plastic looking colors:

these tulips actually had this color ( also taken with the K-x )

another bit strange one:

I remember that photo,at the time I did not know what you were saying but now I do Very Happy
I am wondering is it a camera/lens combo issue or the color setting in the camera itself.Well it gives me something to think about. Laughing

Nice images Mo (and Andreas) - I know that my EOS 5D has problems with reds and makes mincemeat out of them, but the 40D doesn't for some reason. All other colours seem fine - it's those pesky reds that kill me every time!

All CMOS and CCD cameras have problems with reds.
When you notice differences, it's usually because of the lenses.

Hi Moïra.
Beautiful roses. Reds don't shock me.
Your cats females are nice round shapes. Wink Mine are quite round too and I say like you : it's because of their winter fur... Laughing

About the lens.
I have a Super Takumar 1.8/55mm. I wonder how is the 2/55. Could you post a picture of it ?

Here is mine

and some samples taken with the Canon EOS 40D :

Thank you Orio,I may take a few lenses out and just take photos of the red roses and see what happens.

Thanks Olivier Very Happy I will post a image of it later on today my time,Paul(FISH) may have posted a image of it as it is his old Tak.

Mal "mincemeat" is a good word for it, as to me the Reds always look blended Laughing
