We had a really big thunderstorm today. When I got home, I noticed some flashing in my window and grabbed my GF-1 w/ 20mm and a tripod. Here's some of the good ones.

No PP done, just cropping to square for better effect.

One thing that bugs me with the GF-1 is that for long exposures (these shots were around 30sec f:4) it takes equally as long to process, hence you miss alot of the action. Anyone else have this experience. I'm shooting with small JPG and RAW output.

Tried many times to shot thunderstorms but without any success until now. Not so easy to get good results - and your pics are great Wilson. Congrats.

Great shots. I've never tried shooting lightning. Any tips you can share?

Well done Wilson, great shots. You'll be a proper storm-chaser before too long Smile

Can you say where in HK you are and what direction we are looking?

Thanks guys for the kind comments.

I'm in Stanley which is on the south side of the island. The window I took the shots out of faces the south-west into Stanley Bay. I've never had any success since I moved in (9 years now) but I was home surfing the internet and noticed the flashing outside. If I had been ready a bit earlier, there were more awesome flashes. Here's the view from Google Street View.

These few weeks is the thunderstorm season, after that in June it will be typhoon season where it's just a lot of wind and rain, not much lightning.

If I recall f5.6 for 40sec for the first shot and thereabouts for the others. But that all depends on the frequency and intensity of the lightning. I think I was shooting about 1.5 to 2 stops underexposed for ambient light.

I know it Wilson! I was there on a wet day in 2006. There was some construction work in progress on the beach. This was what I could see through the window in the hoarding. Great example of auto-focus Smile
