This is a Tamron Adaptamatic that is not documented on the Adaptall site, nor is it listed by Tamron. Thats not surprising, there are quite a few Tamron lenses that are undocumented, generally those meant for third-party brands or the cheaper lines, or, as we know, hybrid stop-gaps during product transitions. But I would have expected that Tamron kept better track of its "premium" line, like the Adaptamatics were.
I am not sure that this is actually rare, as a couple of members have this or have seen it. Its possible that this was never imported to the USA, as I haven't seen it on US ebay. I don't think I have ever seen it sold under other brands either. Many Adaptamatics were sold in the US as Bushnells.
Its very much like the rest of the Adaptamatic teles, a simple design with rotating front elements. This one is not early production, as it has the later rubber grip. Interestingly, it is almost the same size as the 2.8/135, just a bit narrower. I doubt it cost less to make than the 2.8. Close focus is the same, 5 ft/1.5m.
Performance ? Well, in a word, its wonderful. There are no bad 135's of course, but this one is sharp as can be - or can tell - wide open, even if that is just f/3.5 of course. It is sharp near and far, and has no flare issues at all. I can't see any CA or other problems, and its one of those lenses that just "snaps" into focus for me. Its better than the Tamron Adaptamatic 2.8 I think, and as sharp as the 3.5/135 Takumar.
Pretty much everything (other than the bridge) at f/3.5. I used extension rings for flowers, fish and lizards.

Hi Mo-Fo,
You have the later version of the 2.8/135, with a rubber grip.
I don't think anything changed (well, there was a total redesign of the 28mm) on most of the Adaptamatics during their short manufacturing life other than cosmetics and minor stuff like special holes for some of the more complex mount adapters. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |
