Hi Attila,
the ST801 is a nice solid camera with a very bright viewfinder. I like mine also. I also like my ST705W, I probally use the 705 more than any of my Fujicas. _________________ Nikons : F4-EM-FG-FE2-FA-EL-FTN-N2020-N70-F Nikkorex

Not too much differnt Attila. The ST705W allows a motor drive and only shoots up to 1/1500 od a second instead of 1/2000 of a second, it's also slightly smaller than the 800 but not by much. _________________ Nikons : F4-EM-FG-FE2-FA-EL-FTN-N2020-N70-F Nikkorex

The door is the battery compartment. These AX cameras use a 6v battery. _________________ Nikons : F4-EM-FG-FE2-FA-EL-FTN-N2020-N70-F Nikkorex

Here are the most “important” SLRs in my collection, the theme of which is different manufacturers' takes on the M42 mount SLR. All of them work and are being used to shoot film (well, except for the Zenit, never did put a roll through that). This may also showcase some of my M42 mount normal lenses. =)
Voigtländer VSL-1 TM
Excellent build quality, open-aperture metering, selected aperture reflected in viewfinder, diagonal split-prism, and good viewfinder.
Edixa Reflex Ba
Killer looks, good quality, waist-level viewfinder (interchangeable, actually, but I only have this), shutter lock.
Fuji Photo Film Co. Fujica ST-801
Excellent build, 1/2000s shutter speed, one of the best viewfinders in M42 SLRs (shared with other Fujicas), shutter speed displayed in viewfinder, open-aperture metering with Fujinons.
Pentax Spotmatic SP IIa
Great quality, feels solid while being small. Excellent looks in black.
Ihagee Exa 1b
Cute design, interchangeable viewfinder, here's the alternative (same camera):
(No, you don't have to use the Domiplan with this viewfinder. =)
Mamiya DSX 1000
Solid build, both spot and average metering modes, open-aperture metering with Mamiya/Sekor SX lenses.
Petri MF-1
One of the brightest and best viewfinders in any M42 SLR. Unfortunately, build quality feels a bit flimsy and the shutter is prone to breaking in a sneaky manner (fires but at random speed).
Yashica TL-Super
Mirror lock-up, very solid build.
Vivitar XC-2
Shutter speeds down to 4s, good viewfinder, selectable spot and average metering modes, multi-exposure capability, XC-A accessory allows aperture priority auto-exposure (by physically turning the shutter speed dial for you =). Unfortunately the shutter is electronic.
Zenit-11
Can be used as a close-combat weapon.
Praktica MTL-5B
Good looks and ergonomic shutter release placement, diagonal split-prism.
Ricoh TLS-401
Mirror lock-up with self timer, viewfinder can be toggled between camera top and rear, selectable average and spot metering modes. Unfortunately the viewfinder is really dim and has a sickly green cast, and ergonomics are awful. But among the most feature-rich M42 cameras otherwise.

And some of the accumulated “extra” SLRs I have around. They work, but I plan to keep only one camera per manufacturer (although I'm tempted to keep two Fujicas), so I should probably sell most or all of these:
Praktica super TL
Fuji Photo Film Co. Fujica ST-801
Yes, another one, this time in silver.
Fuji Photo Film Co. Fujica ST-701
Fuji Photo Film co. Fujica ST-605
Fuji Photo Film co. Fujica ST-605N
Looks the same as the above, except that there's an “N” after the number.
Praktica LTL-2
Hmm, I don't seem to have a picture of this one. |

1. Firstly, my old warrior, the Olympus OM-1. Been everywhere in the last 20 years and survived things a camera shouldn't have to. Its predecessor had a similar life. Being used to full-sized bodies for the past couple of years, picking this up again is like handling a miniature.
2. My favourite oldster, the Voigtlander Bessamatic. The leather carry-case has encouraged mildew spotting on the face of the chrome as you can see. Thought I'd cleaned it off, but the lighting shows it up mercilessly. Moral: check your stored cameras regularly, and don't store them in leather cases.
3. The Ricoh Singlex original, with Nikon F mount. An oddity this, I only picked it for the lens, but as a camera it's a bit of a collectible. The missing metering shoe detracts from it, but what the heck, it works perfectly without it.
4. Cosina Hi-Lite. Once again, it was a lens donor, but curiously interesting as a camera.
I've decided to keep it purely as an M42 carrier.
5. Praktica LTL3. Actually quite a nice camera to use and this is kept, again, as an M42 mount for when I feel the urge.
