I sometimes require Ambien to get to sleep because of pain (no complaint, just fact). I prefer to transcend mental medication, but last night I took the pill and slipped out of consciousness.

There is something known as "Ambien Amnesia" in which the drugged person starts performing daily tasks - cooking and eating a meal, holding a conversation - but is totally unaware of it the following morning. Well, this morning after a refreshing cup of coffee, I logged in to my email and discovered that at 3:48AM I had made a bid on a rather nice, but potentially over-priced, telephoto lens!!! Sleep is expensive!

Are there other somnambulating gear-junkies out there? Recommendations?

Perhaps you just have to be thankful for not having won an auction for a white elephant! Very Happy

What was the lens and what did you pay?

I may use the same excuse to my wife on my next purchase! Laughing

Hmm...
I do the same without the benefits of medication or booze. Embarassed

ps. You can withdraw your bid and simply say it was the kids / mother-in-law / au pair that did it. Smile

Farside,

You're Irish, man, no-one would believe those excuses. It would have to be something like:
"My mum-in-law was in her cups, per usual, and hauled off and chucked her Yorkie at the kids for their noise. The dog bounced off the keyboard, struck the au-pair alongside the head, dropping her like a dead cod, and hit Enter on the rebound. My Mum-in-law says she doesn't want no lenses today."

Several years ago, I came back home from a very pint-driven night out on town and quite intoxicated somehow decided to log into eBay. Bought a lens and did not realize it until next day when I noticed the eBay Congratulations! -email in my inbox. Price was about 1 month's net salary... *doh*

Well, I kept the lens, but ever since I have sworn to myself not to touch an internet browser if I'm drunk Very Happy

My subconsciousness played a dirty trick on me recently as well, causing me to place a bid at 10x of what I wanted to pay, when it was too late to retract... And the lens was not in the sub-$100 range, I must say. Luckily, nobody of my eBay competitors made the same mistake, so I got the lens for a reasonable price Smile

A lot of red-wine combined with some money my mother had left me and sheer luck made me hit the button for the 'buy-at-once' Nikon Noct I got for 1400 Euro two years ago.So I'm very grateful to the wonderful product of Bordeaux that removed my inhibitions.

One of them, yes Smile I bid for two and got both because the second one was bought as a second chance offer from a seller with 0 feedback Smile Risky, but it arrived in much better shape than I expected, flawless.
