I think this is a better place for these shots. A friend sent me a bunch of the
above from California, goes for 99c a roll:
The first set is using the Konica T4/UC Hexanon 4/80-200 zoom lens. I had
CVS develop these as Walmart's machine was down, also had them scan
to CD:
and this set is using the Exakta 500 testing the Pentacon 3.5/30 lens. Encountered some flare with this, need a better hood. Colors seem to be
off a little, too. Will try scanning these at home to see if I get the same result:
The Pentacon is no Zeiss, but will do until I can find a Flek. |

Wow! On that Pentacon - I find the colors to be properly "muted" and actually quite real looking, if that makes any sense. But what REALLY is nice is the quality of the scans from the lab!
Frankly, that Pentacon has GOT to be a keeper. Sharpness and overall clarity looks wonderful, at least on my monitor. _________________

Thanks, Laurence, I found out about CVS over at NikonCafe. The scans
are what I would call medium size 1.5MB files, great for web use, and I
guess you could print out a decent 5x7, maybe 8x10 from it. Processing
only with CD is $5.79 with tax, thinking about doing that from now on with
my Portra shots.
All shots are uncropped.
The Pentacon is growing on me, need to shoot another roll. |

I agree.
By now you have probable tried everyone for developing. Are they all about the same, or is walmart as good or better than the rest? My cousin gets his developed at Sams club and swears by them. I haven't tried Sams in years. _________________ Ron |

Excellent shots, Bill, impressive scan results.
I like very much the framing.
The Hexanon ones look really good.
From the exa500 samples, the one of the mini-cooper doesn't show any colouring problem, the other may be a little overexposed. ¿Slow curtains in the camera?.

Gents, thanks for your comments!
Ron, it boils down to what personnel are working the lab on a given day
with Wallies. A little more money, and Walgreens and now CVS (hopefully)
do a better job: no dirty roller marks and scratches through the film, etc.
Hexi, I think it's a variety of passiflora, not completely sure.
Xpres and Poilu, thanks! Having them professionally scanned has been an
eye-opener for me. I can't get the detail I see in these using the Epson 4490. I'll still use it for my medium format shots.
Jes, might be slow curtains, but I've been using the Sonnar on this Exakta
500 with good exposures. Hummmm. Thanks for your comments.
Jes, forgot to add about the frames: I use Irfanview (free program) and
on these small files I resize in PS to 650 pixels across then open the file
in Irfanview and click on canvas size: first setting is '5' for all 4 sides, then
'1' for the white strip, then back to black the setting is '60' for all 4 sides. |

Excellent photos - do you have any clue who makes the film?
I've been using CVS for years, and yes, it depends on store and who's running the machine. Equivalent is Duane Reed here in the New York area, they use the same machine as CVS. The scans usually are good.
I've printed 13x19 from a CVS scan, resizing in ps first. No problem, good quality, can't really tell... figure with film, using an enlarger to get to 13x19 from a 35mm negative is stretching things anyway. _________________ -Jussi

Seele, thanks, I'll try making a temporary one out of heavy black construction paper and tape.
Nesster, film is made in Japan, kind of reminds me of the Walgreens film,
but cheaper. Thanks for your comments, good to know the CVS scans can
go that large. |
