Hello guys.

To add another lens to my collection, it's the moment to buy a macro lens.

I'm searching for a real size macro, but I don't know one good lens... really, I know a lot of good macro lenses, but not in my price settings.

Arround 200€ (250$) what it's the better macro? If the lens its cheper...better Laughing

Thank you so much!

Regards

Pd. The focal distance... arround 100mm Wink

1:1, around 100mm and under $250? Maybe Asahi Macro Takumar 100/4 + extension rings...

I know onlytwo 1:1 native macro lenses in this price segment: Vivitar (Komine) Macro 55/2.8 and Tomioka Macro Yashinon 60/2.8...

why do you need 1:1
with 1:2 the frame is 4.5cm on your 40D
tamron sp 90:2.5 go 1:2 and it is a nice portrait lens

You won't find anything cheaper than this one:

It fits the bill: it is 100mm, goes to 1:1 with included extension tube and is available new for $120. The lens is reputedly good (I have never tried it), so good in fact that Pentax sold it under its own band. It is available in many other mounts as well, and is sold under many different brands (Phoenix, Samyang, Quantaray, etc.).

Cheers!

Asahi Macro-Takumar 50/4 is my favorite. Gets to 1:1 less than $100US

I like very much using as a walkaround lens because it covers 1:1 macro to infinityAND has imho AWESOME IQ!

The Asahi Super-Macro-Takumar 50/4 for about the same price and Asahi Super-Multi-Coated Macro-Takumar 50/4 for a little more both go to 1:2, as does the Asahi Super-Multi-Coated 100/4 which goes for less than $150US.

I also recommend Takumar 50/4 1:1 macro lens.

You could get a 105mm f4 micro-nikkor for that. It goes to 1:2 but is designed to go up to 1:1 with a short extension tube (which may have been supplied as standard with the lans, I believe it was for the 55mm)

Our Member Bawang has a Bokina in the marketplace now (Viv S1 2.5/90)
Don't miss it if you really are ready to jump Very Happy

1:1 is not big issue.
If you can find a good affordable 1:2 lens, buy it. The moment you will need a 1:1 enlargement, just add a 5 euros extension tube. It will do exactly the same work as the tube of a 1:1 lens.

Thanks for the answers.

Actually, I use the Pentacon 135 with extension tubes, and it works perfect, but i wanted a specific macro lens... too vice for my wallet Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I have the 105 and 90mm Vivitar Series 1 lenses and they are both excellent.

But yesterday I had some fun with a Industar 61 with a vivitar macro TC.
I was pretty happy with the shots... even if I may have sharpened a tad much on the resize... But I have always been a sucker for those segmented eyes...
I think that combo would come under your 250 limit. And it looks to be at least 1:1

I'd second the Phoenix / Samyang / Vivitar 100mm f3.5 (they are all made by Cosina in Japan)

I got mine (an AF version!) from B&H for $70 used. It goes 2:1 or 1:1 with the lifesize converter (which may or may not come with the lens -- Pentax's rebrand for example doesn't have the 1:1 converter).

It's decent at f3.5 and excellent at f5.6. I don't think Cosina makes the AF version anymore, but the MF version is about $120 new. It is of rather flimsy build however (not as flimsy as the Canon 50mm f1.8 II, but close).

f/16, auto-focus! this critter is about 1.5" long so not 1:1

These are some GREAT macro shots! I wish that bugs didn't "bug" me so much, I don't really know why I'm adverse to close-ups of insects. But that certainly doesn't take away from the beautiful technical expertise you guys are showing on macro shots.

Save some more money and buy SL Apo Lanthar 125/2.5 instead. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Nah, I've seen the SL Apo Lanthar 90/3.5 for around $250 at ebay and thats a good close-up lens. Look at the beutiful butterfly shot from Piotrek at the butterfly here: http://forum.mflenses.com/which-lens-do-you-like-for-the-bokeh-t13339,start,225.html#140118

That is absolutley a good choice if you can find a cheap one.

Oh, and btw...
The Cosina 100/3.5 macro might be intresting.
It's an AF lens, but AF is so bad that's it practically useless anyway.

It was on sale in a local store here in Sweden for about $150 a while a go.
Some friends of mine bought theirselfs a copy and are very happy with it.

It's only 1:1 if you use the provided close-up filter.

I guess thats one of the cheapest macro lenses you can find (if you don't care about build quality Razz).

I've also seen a similar lens from Soligor, 100/3.5 macro.

But I guess you where looking for a MF lens with great build quality, so forget about this then... But in case someone wanted to try macro very cheap this might be a good choice. Smile

Thank you.

The voigtlander 90 is really amazing Shocked and the 125... Shocked Shocked (twice, hehehe)

I'm thinking that the better option is wait a few months and buy one of them!

I discard any option with extension tubes for a good macro, because with macro tubes I have the pentacon 135, and it works well...

Hello guys!

One week ago I'm dediced to wait a couple months and buy one apo-lanthar...but ebay hits again Laughing Laughing

Yesterday, I bougth a Rikenon 105/2.8 macro
With this nomenclature it's a bit stranger, but this is the same lens that the recognize Kiron 105 macro or the Vivitar 105/2.5

The better in this audition...the price Laughing
I only paid 90€ (arround 110$) for it...too far than the 300$ that cost any Kiron unit.

Regards

PD. I promise some pics when I receive it Wink

I still remember when i got the Tamron 90mm 2.5 for that price. Plus $20 for the Tamron 2x TC.

Now it costs around $250-300. Damn you manual lens fashion!! Shocked

P. D. Vaya, hasta ahorita me voy dando cuenta que eras el Chiti de Canonistas. jaja!! Very Happy

I just got the Komine Vivitar 90/2.8 1:1 macro for $78 on ebay (incl. shipping). Not the best price (I got my Cosina 100/3.5 1:2 AF Macro for less than $70) but I don't see them going for lower than that.. still waiting for it..

The lowest I've seen for the Pentax M42 50/4 1:2 Macro is in the $90 range.

Congratulation for your Rikenon. Looking forward to see some samples.

I never used a macro lens except a SMC Takumar 105mm f4 on bellows. It fully pleases me.
