Performance is actually reasonable wide angle @ 28mm and f:8 - where I'd be using most of the time, light permitting.
At 80mm is fine too, at f:8 or so.
Things start to get a bit iffy at the other end, this isn't a lens you want to use at 200mm very much, especially if there's any brightly lit white bits in the scene
This one was ok at f:8, but almost all the others of this were unusable. The f:5.6 performance was fairly bad.
You can see a bit of CA and image deterioration on the right side, at f:11. The sun was very bright and the areas of white on the cows were very reflective.
100% crop, not good.
On the other hand, this was a centred one-eighteenth of the image area and while not great, is a usable snapshot.
On balance, I'll use this for general street shooting but will bear in mind its shortcomings - like not using it wider than f:8 if possible, and keeping away from the tele extreme. It's quite a handy zoom range and for non-critical snapshootery is perfectly adequate, especially allied with in-camera IS. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Dave,
You don't have a typo on the long end of the max f stop do you? I have a Tamron 28-200 Aspherical AF XR IF 3.5-5.6 [not 5.8]. I rarely use it, I suppose I should sell it. It's not a bad performer, but not up to other lenses I have in similar range. It takes 62mm filter & is model A03 _________________ Cameras-Nikon D300, D7100,D610,FE2,FTN ,FT2,N90s, Olympus Pen EP-3 & Olympus OM-D E-M10
