Lovely samples, really liked Distagon and Takumar 35 shots, but all were great.

Excellent work!! The Lanthar really hits me...!!
But the Kodak meniscus has his (soft) charm, too!

Great series! Did you use an extension tube for the Trioplan?

PostPosted: Sun Apr 05, 2009 7:14 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

You should be proud of #13, perfect.

Very well done on #22 ! Thats art.

The OOF effect is very interesting on the Takumar 35/2.3. I should look for that.

The bees really like you !

Thank you. I recieved the Takumar a few days ago from Voytek. I'm very happy, because I had this lens some time ago (100% new condition), but I sold it. It's one of the best 35mm lenses and the best one in some aspects: It's the only lens I have ever tried, which has zero CA. It must be stopped down to suppress all glows - at least to f/7, better to f/8. The best results produces at f/11. Resolution is stunning, perfect edge to edge sharpness (on APS-C) and none CA. I'll post the pension shot in full resolution Smile

Thanks! I also like some of the lanthar results, but the biggest surprise for me was the Meogon. It has near-volna bokeh and near-lanthar sharpness. It's color shift is completely different to all other lenses (not much obvious from the shots, I corrected WB partially), but a bit of the pruple/orchid tone can be seen on the flowers. It's interesting, that with all other lenses the first color, which gets out of Foveon dynamic range, is red. Not with Meogon - all three channels well aligned pretty well.

Than you. Yes. I used 37-90mm focusing helicoid from Alex. I used it also for the Meogon. Takumar 35mm shots were taken with small extension ring.

Thanks. When I was converting and resizing the images, I noticed, that almost all of the bees were carrying some kind of parasite Shocked I have no luck when searching it on web. It's small, oblong, yellow or orange, it waits on flowers (mainly on stigma of crocuses) and when the bee drinks, it climbs on it.

It can be seen here:

or here (2 on the bee and at least 3 on the flower)

poilu, Esox lucius: Thank you, guys.

Lanthar, it's very good

PostPosted: Sun Apr 05, 2009 6:39 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

It seems, that the parasites are larvae of bug Meloe (meloid, oil beetle). It waits on the flower for a bee, get on, wait till the bee arrives to hive, creeps to a cell with bee ovum and eats it together with honey supply which was stored there for the bee ovum. Than it perforates to neighbouring cell and eats several larvae of bees.

Unfortunately it works only on solitary bees. Domesticated bees can detect it after it eats the first ovum/larva.

#22 and the bees are my favourites.

arhi_tectu1: I'll post picture of the lens later. Meopta Meogon 60/5.6 is lens for medium format enlarger. According to some opinions on the web and a Meopta worker, it should be one of the best enlargers lenses ever made. I can confirm, that it has superb resolving power and bokeh is much better than with Macro Takumar or Industar 50-2.

Orio: Thank you.

I forgot I took a picture of the lens months ago Smile

greg: You're welcome Smile

trifox: I like the Trioplan more and more. It can create soft-focus image, it can create retro bokeh, it can create super-smooth deep bokeh, it can be sharp, it's near apochromatic, it's small and light and it always adds some atmosphere to the image...

Attila: Thank you!

Beautiful series. The bees are simply astounding. Interesting results from the meniscus. Did you rescued it from old Kodak folding?

Wonderful! I like Takumar #15, Meogons # 22,23, Trioplan # 26, but in my opinion the best are Trioplan # 29, and Distagon # 37.

Thanks to all.

I bought it separately. Kodak cameras are rare here. My model is probably taken from "Kodak no.2 folding cartridge hawk-eye model b".

PostPosted: Sun Apr 12, 2009 7:13 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I own that camera, in working condition. I only need to fix the bellows.
Now I'm motivated (seen your results) to do that and run a roll of film thru this beauty.
Very Happy
-Marty.
