Here's the news about the Samsung NX series. It appears that it has removable lenses!

I guess they worked on this camera together with Pentax? I'm wondering if Pentax will also announce something like this.

Unfortunately, without a M bayonet or M39 mount, it will not allow for use of all the best rangefinder lenses.
So pretty much useless from our MF lenses users point of view Sad

Not all is lost of course... We pretty know nothing at this point. Who knows... It might have the right registration distance or adapters will be made too. The possibilities are endless.

Am I to understand this camera will use the current line of Pentax AF lenses?

There's nothing in the press release to suggest that, but it seems likely that they would follow in the footsteps of 4/3 and offer an adapter. The register is "60% shorter", so an extension tube would be required. To make most K-AF lenses usable, you would also need a focus motor.

However, super-short register and larger-than 4/3 sensors are an intriguing combination. This could be even better than a G1 for our old glass.

(looks longingly at the 25mm/0.78)

If they reduced the registerd distance with 60% of 45.5 (K pentax mount used by Samsung dSLRs too)= ~18,2m ! Wink

I'm not sure where this 60% decrease figure has come from. The press release on dpr says
Quote:
decreasing the distance between the lens and image sensor (flange back) by approximately 40% compared to traditional DSLRs

So that would work out ~27.3mm if I'm not much mistaken.

Cheers,
Peter

First question is about the lens mount. Is it a new lens mount? Is it the Pentax K mount?
It's our own mount.

So it's a new mount, smaller. Will it be compatible with the K mount used on your current DLSRs?
As far as I understand it will be, using an adaptor. That's part of the plan.

So is this something that you're developing completely independently of Pentax?
Yes. The lenses, sensor, processor, display - everything comes from Samsung.

So there won't be a Pentax version?
At some point maybe we'll collaborate - but not only with Pentax. To fully develop this kind of product we'll need a lot of collaboration with other industries in general terms, so there are lots of partners we have, but the majority comes from Samsung, all coordinated by Samsung, all done by Samsung.

With your sensor size being a little larger I presume that means that the lenses - and indeed the cameras - have to be bigger too?
Yes, the sensor size is larger than Micro Four Thirds, but the lens size will be almost exactly the same. The thickness of the body is almost the same too.
