Just wanted to see how the lenses performed in *my own* situation. I've shot them in RAW and manually adjusted the WB to 7200K. Focusing was done through Live View, on the eyes of the toy bear. Please bear in mind that I applied sharpening afterwards (that's because I would like to see how the lens performs wide open on shots I'd post on the web).
Again, nothing fancy. So, use this at your own risk
1. Industar 50-2 50mm f/3.5
2. SMC Pentax-F 50mm f/1.4
3. S-M-C Takumar 50mm f/1.4 (you can actually see the yellowing)
3. Auto Yashinon-DX 50mm f/1.4 (this lens has several marks on the front element so that's why the results look less contrasty)
4. Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f/1.8 Pancolar MC Electric

the yellowing adds Something? I don't know. I can see the excelent IQ inherent to the tak, despite the yellowish tone.

I think the reason for the popping out of the teddy is the slower max aparture and that it is focused further back. Se the text on the foot. The text is actually unsharp in the pancolor shot.
Both of these facts makes the contours of the bear sharp. Hence the "popping out".
Compare with the Tak where the edge of the ears are unsharp.
And that SMC-F is autofocus. Such horror!

The focal level is different with the shots.
The Pancolar-Photo has it at the level of the red rose.
The Takumar-Photo has it at the level of the text.
Beside the too warm coloring of the Takumar, the bokeh of the Pancoloar seems to me to be better. _________________ Cameras: Sigma SA300 - Sigma SD9 - Sigma SD10

Hi Rino,
Thanks for your comments. The Takumar did not have the UV treatment, but I do not see this as essential with today's cameras with auto white balance
What do you want to see exactly about the Pancolar? It's exactly the same as this one:
Sadly, the Yashinon does not look like a keeper. It maybe usable for someone else though. The first one to send me a PM can have it for free (well, almost, as you will have to pay for the shipping costs). _________________ Peter - Moderator

Thanks spotmatic.
Your pancolar has a very, very nice warm touch. I have one similar but it´s older than yours (n° 10.0xx.xxx). Another mine, near yours in time, it's something cold (greenish tint).
I thought that yours could be older, as mine warmer.
I wanted to try if there were a continuity in the time of production and the tendency to be the lens warm or cold, but I'm lost now.
Thanks SpotMatic, very much.

Actually I like my F-series primes a lot. The ugliness is so typically 80's that they're actually beautiful. Also, the build quality is excellent with lots of metal and hardly any plastic
(The collection below is not complete; the F 50/1.7 and F 135/2.8 [IF] were added later).
Bottom picture, from left to right:

- SMC Pentax-F 50mm f/2.8 macro
- SMC Pentax-F 100mm f/2.8 macro
- SMC Pentax-F* 300mm f/4.5 ED [IF]
And the F-series zooms:
- F 35-70

I ask because don't know and It seems to me an interesant question.

i have not a Pancolar f/1.8.
but if you find a sharp lens at wide open, about me pentax 50mm f1.7 is very very good. better then pentax 50mm f1.4 and Takumar 50mm f1.4.
also the boken is different: pentax 50mmm has a soft bokeh.
some digital pentaxians today for this reason have 50mm f1.4 and also 50mm f1.7 because they are 2 different lens:
- 50mm f1.4 (portrait)
- 50mm f1.7 (night shot) |

Nice collection indeed. And yes, the 300/4.5 is a gem of a lens. You just have to be careful with the background as the bokeh can be a bit busy at times.
Cheers!

I'm disappointed in the Industar. I've almost boght one a few times, but it's showing why it's so cheap in this test. _________________ Casual attendance these days |
