One has to get a kind of experience of how a shot will look after stiching - and somehow to get the feeling which kind of scenes fit a panoramic shot.
Horizontals and verticals get very much distorted, like with a fish-eye. It's nice to play with it. Projection modes can help correcting distortions or make them even more extreme to create dynamic distortion effects... very difficult for me to explain in English what I want to say.
