I can't modify these two for my EOS 400D so they are just accessory at the moment for me. For a fast 50mm I've bought a Super Takumar 50/1.4 from Istanbul, it was very clean but it's really hard to focus right with such a large aperture, at least for me Smile

Photos of the lenses:
Rokkor-x 50/1.4: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yalcinaydin/sets/72157606242262204/
Vivitar 28/2:

And I have a question are these scracthes serious and effect image quality ?

I've realized these when pointing to direct light.
Considering this Ebay description is not true I guess Sad
"There is no haze or fungus, and free of oil. Optic is clean and clear. The front and rear element has no marks or scratches. The lens should deliver excellent results.
The serial number is 3826371.
It always saves in dry box."

It might not have much effect on the image, possibly just on contrast.

Hard to say.

I have scratched lenses, but none that bad.

It is too much it will impact.

Bad news to hear, because of the scratches I made a %50 price discount which means loss for me and I will be really cautious when buying used equipment from now on...

Seems like a fungus infected lens, cleaned with harsh chemicals. Why don't you try to shoot, even by just holding the lens in front of your camera?

PapadakosPanagiotis, thanks for the advice Wink
Here are the shots and it seems like they aren't effecting the image quality.

Seems Ok, but probably it will be inferior in a comparison with a clean lens, especially wide open, where lost of contrast and sharpness is more evident.
Also I believe that it would flare easily.

Yes, I think so too. You need to test it with a bright light source just outside the picture.

Perhaps for the better way to know the quality of the lens, you can take

the same pics with the lens minolta and other 50 mm. that, for you, have

the edge in sharpness and contrast. I think that you will know what you

can wait about the Minolta lens.

Good luck.

Rino.

I took some outdoor shots but I don't know how to manage the large aperture, @ISO100, f:1.4, 1/4000 lens is at infinity but as the register distance is not as it shpuld be everything is out of focus. Do you want me to load it, I don't know if we can judge the lens with this method. Maybe I must find a minolta SLR owner and take some real shots.

Amazing to think these are two photos of the same lens. Perhaps the first one was taken before the front element was attacked by a wire brush?

Are both pics of the lens take after you buy it. Can be possible that the first - don't see scraches or fungus marks - is a seller pic?

And why do you want to test the lens at infinite?

Guys, both of the pictures are taken by me.
In the beautiful rokkor photo flash was used, I don't remember the settings at the moment and in the scratched lens photo I used my LED head light to make the scratches visible.

I wanted to the infinity focus cause I thought of shooting for flares but outdoors with a proper focus needs infinity focus.

Anyways indeed I couldn't find any effect on my tests. I've a friend in Istanbul shooting with a Minolta body, I will give the lens to him for testing and maybe I'll just give to him as a present.

You wil not have any problem with your scrached lens. In the theory, some things can ocurr, but when you take a pic, nothing will go wrong. May be less contrast, OK. But if you want to tansmit the beauty of the subject, you can do it without any problems.

Care. With the rear lenses is another history.

I'm using my Minolta MD lenses just for macro with reverse adapter and I must say that I'm very satisfied with the results.

Who can say that the scratches on the front element affects image quality Smile
# Minolta Rokkor-X PG 50/1.4@f:16 + reverse adapter + 56mm extension tube
# ISO100,1/10
# Sunpak 422D @1/4 power, behind translucent umbrella, uppercamera right
# High contrast Infrared emulation for the high detail.

# Kiron made Vivitar 28/2 @f16 + reverse adapter + 56mm extension tube
# ISO100, 1/125
# Sunpak 422D and 433D @1/2 power, left and right of the camera, behind paper sheet
# Ilford Delta 3200 b&w emulation (I love its tonal rendition and b&w)

Thanks Atilla, this is just a 9$ (shipping included) metal, highly recommended Wink

My master's works with reverse adapter can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29111728@N03/2719135815/
Check out the ant's portrait shot: "photo @ 17mm with 36mm macro extension tube ...". He used a Tamron 17-50/2.8 AF lens in this shot.

Just got an MC Rokkor 50mm 1.4 from Indonesia for 0.99$, which has the same problem as yours yalcinaydin. Unfortunately I found the problem after leaving
feedback.... Somehow i think we bought from the same seller!

This Rokkor-PG 50/1.4 is a quite nice lens among Minolta's normal
lenses (I have 12 different normal lenses). I saw there is sanding-
power (not grits!!) available in Japan, that can eliminate scratches.

If I can find that magic power, will tell you guys.

Papadakos, it's possible as mine was also from Indonesia I guess but your's is quite bargain, I paid 40$ for this glass Sad Anyways I've sold my 2 Minolta MDs (also the lovely Kiron 28/2) with my former DSLR, 400D.

That would be interesting, but probably is a bit dangerous. I am willing to try though.
