Ricoh Singlex (pre-TLS)

This is the first of the Singlexes, equipped with a Nikon F mount. Totally manual, there was an auxiliary meter which clipped into a shoe on the front, where you see the holes in the casing. The small chromed knurled knob on the left of the lens mount is the release - pull it toward the body.

With Rikenon 55/1.4

With Vivitar 19/3.8 Nikon mount

Here's the back open, showing the Copal vertical metal shutter - something out of the ordinary in its day, and supposedly with a reputation for being a bit fragile. This one works well.

Unfortunately, it was a heavy smoker's camera and the lens stinks - a careful scrub got rid of a lot of it, but you can see some nicotine staining on the grooves and also on some bits of the body, still.

A very interesting camera, direct predecessor to both the Ricoh and Mamiya screw-mount SLR lines.

Any mechanical Nikon F family at all, as far as I can see. The Rikenon is Nikon F Non-AI, the Viv 19 has the second aperture ring (does that make it AI-S?) and the Viv 28 has no second ring, and all of them work fine, stopping down when they should. Singlex lenses need a slight mod to work on Nikon bodies, but I don't have a Nikon body to try it on.

Broadly equivalent, I suppose.
It's the consumer brother (cousin, really) of the Nikon F. Nikon released it as the Nikkorex to generate sales of bodies and lenses in the middle sector of the market to accompany their pro-body 'F'.
It's directly comparable to the position the Nikkormat had to the F2.

Supposedly, Mamiya updated their Prismat body and turned it into the Nikkorex for Nikon. When Nikon launched the Nikkormat, Ricoh took over the Nikkorex design and sold it as their Singlex.
