If you had a choice between the two, which one would you choose?
Can you tell me the basis of your decision?
I believe they can be had for a similar price....$500 - $600.

How would you shoot the FD? With Film?

I think that the 2/100 you have trumps either in most ways (including MTF's if I remeber correctly).
That said you know the rest of my answer Wink

Carl Zeiss without hesitation.

for me, Canon FD 85mm f1.2L is the first choice for portrait photography.

I have both Carl Zeiss 85mm f1.4 and 100mm f2 but I like the skin tone from Canon fd 85mm f1.2L.

I had the Canon EF 100/2, a very nice lens, very detailed, but too bland and languid for my taste.
Even when I photograph girls, I prefer my lens to have a punch, to be virile.
After I got my Planars and Sonnars, I didn't have any more doubts.
I sold the Canon and I think this says it.
Now perhaps I have higher risk to miss focus Wink but I don't care Laughing

This is taken with the Planar 1.4/85. It's not really a portrait, it's a snapshot which explains the non perfect focus (nice excuse, I need to remember it for other occasions Laughing ):

I have put three 100% crops in this thread in Mammooth Gallery with further comments to explain why I preferred this lens over my Canon EF 2/100:
