I did not really expect to win that one, but now I guess I will convert that from Alpa to Nikon etc. - seen excellent images on a japanese site...

Or shall I better leave it as is....Ideas, opinions?

About serial number ranges I found that (Attila, maybe copy that into a sep. thread?)

Alpas are very collectible I think - so are Angenieux. It may be best to look at this as an investment.

Would the conversion be reversible ?

Nice catch!
I guess I second luis' thoughts.

Nope, it woul dnot be reversible since alpa has a much shorter register than Nikon (or EOS), so some of the rear would have to be milled off and a new mounting ring attached.

Best as an investment and unmodified
This guy will not see use before your other beauties in this FL

Congrats on a nice catch
Maybe a Native Camera body to complete the package would be nice Cool

The C/Y sonnar 180mm is certainly better I guess..

Congrats Klaus, I don't have any clue about this brand.

They still have an excellent reputation. My friend Capt. Jack (Andrew Dugrew in real life), the famous - not only - Exakta collector calls them the best lenses of all he has (and he has A LOT).

http://captjack.exaktaphile.com/Angenieux%20page.htm

QUOTE <<"The 180mm f4.5 Angénieux is both the longest and slowest speed lens of the non-automatics manufactured in Exakta mount. It is rather uncommon and excellent optically.">> UNQUOTE

...remembering that made me actually place a bid for that, automatic with circular dial, one.

Btw, here is a catalogue scan
http://yandr.50megs.com/ange/ange.htm
which shows that the 4.5/180mm is a 6 lens in 5 groups design (very famous and good)

P.S.: thanks for listing the serial numbers Attila!

Don't tuch this lens, it's a gem.

Buy an alpa - especially 10D with a makro switar 50/1,9

Enjoy the lens.

That's an interesting lens; it would be a loss to irreversibly mod it, but perhaps better that than it never be used again.
I don't know - it's a hard one.

It says alpha has 37,8mm register distance , how would you like to solve this problem with conversion ?

It is my opinion that the Contax 2.8/180 is the most pleasing lens of it's FL
Others may feel differently
I can't imagine that adapting this lens will trump the CCZ Sonnar 2.8/180
From a collection standpoint that Aggy is a very cool lens however.
So It is probably best to keep it original and buy it a body.
Hey it looks like I did not say anything new.
No surprise I guess Embarassed Laughing

Your collection is staggeringly world class Klaus Congratulations Very Happy

Guess I rather try it out and test the quality as compared to the Sonnar for instance, the just keep if for the collection or sell it again, we'll see...

Well, most likely to good to have it machined to fit Nikon or EOS.
