Wow, this is a small camera, but using the included battery grip with 8 AA
batteries really adds some nice space and heft to it. The lens arrived the
day before and looks brand new! A couple of hasty pics with the Canon G2:

Waiting on an M42 adapter from HK.

Thanks, Andy, and have you sent the little package yet? Laughing

No rush, got a lens to play with, and lots more if that adapter shows up soon.

Nice! Congrats!
I have always liked Pentax (D)SLRs. They have a great design.

PostPosted: Wed Aug 27, 2008 6:26 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Congratulations fot the K10D's predecessor (the first Pentax dSLR).

PS. Almost the first one would have been the Pentax MZ-D but it remaind as project or what status. It would have shared the same full fram (!) Philips sensor like the Contax N Digital camera.
Here it is (based on the Pentax MZ-S flagship) http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/bodies/prototypes/MZ-D.html ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax_MZ-D ) .

Thanks, guys, hope to post some samples soon! Really like the feel of this
cam with the battery grip in place, which will help a lot for vertical shots.

I've been taking some shots with this cam, and it has focus confirm for both
AF and MF lenses! Just like Nikon, nice! Hope it does the same for any lens
that uses an adapter, like M42, Nikon, etc. Hope to post some pics this
evening.

They're nice little cameras and I wish they had IS - I'd have one like a shot.
That Sears lens looks awfully like a Sirius.

Dave, what is a Sirius? Seriously... Laughing

PostPosted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 12:06 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Sirius is/were a middling-cheap range, not crap, not great. You don't see all that many of them and I only bought one years ago because I needed a 28mm and that's what was in the shop. The Sirius's of that age have distinctive green and orange fonts like that Sears.
I've noticed with some amusement that some sellers trade on the apparent rarity value of them and I've seen quite a few ten buck lenses go for thirty and forty. Laughing

Laughing Thanks, Dave, good to know!

Jules, only have this Sears lens to play with right now, and have a few to
post here, not ready for prime time gallery! Laughing

Looks nice Bill. Its picture time.

Well, this lens doesn't seem the equal to my Sigma Mini Wide, even though
on a different camera:

First shot is wide open at f2.8, second is f4-5.6 and same with the outside
shots. Aperture Priority for all of these. Need to get a Nikon>PK adapter
and the only one I've found is $39.95 from HK or Shanghai, can't remember which. This camera is very nice handling, and I'm going to
enjoy shooting with it using OTHER lenses. Laughing

Bill, I'm not sure that thing exists. Better try to mount them directly ( see: http://forum.mflenses.com/using-non-ai-nikkor-lenses-on-pentax-k10d-t3216.html ) .

pS. The registered distance is too close and the mount's diameter is almost identical (if not exactly).

Cosmin, thanks much for pointing this out! Smile Right now I'm pretty lens poor
for using the Pentax until the M42 adapter arrives. I have a Kiron 28/3.5
non-AI I could try, but would hate to scratch up the mount flange dorking
around trying to fit it on the camera. I don't have near the experience or
skill of you or Abbazz, but am tempted to try the Kiron to see how it goes.

Here's the only ebay auction:

Click here to see on Ebay

It's about the presumed cheap Chinese optics that prevents me from pulling
the trigger on this one. What's the point of attaching a perfectly good lens
if there's a layer of crappy glass between it and the sensor?

This recent lens I got for the Pentax, will check to see if I could use its mount on the Sigma Mini Wide, both are 52mm lens filter thread.

Thanks again,

Bill

Here's a couple more sample pics using the same lens pictured in this
thread:
f4

f4 or f5.6

The vertical grip is a pleasure to use, both shots are uncropped. Fellow
Pentax users, what do you have your incamera sharpness setting on?
This is a lot different than what came out of the Oly e300, but I'm starting
to like it!

Nice shots!

And a stunning looking cat as ever Wink
