So he does it, I was hoping he'd show how to mod an enlarger. It becomes clear that the reason for the web page and video is a promotion for his printing service. The generic copyright free 'music' on the video was extremely annoying.

Its got me thinking though, that a modified video projector may be the solution. I actually have a projector but some kind of ventilated, lightproof housing for it would be necessary.

Exactly.
He says that the enlargement is usually less then 2x and he uses a 13x18 enlarger. Probably he uses a high definition tablet display, as a Retina Display or the one used in the Microsoft Surface tablet. A tablet is easy to place at the top of an enlarger with the back-light device removed. Or a 13x18 camera could be used as well instead of an enlarger.

Yep, that was my thought too as the by today available resolution of those devices restricts the maximum print size.

I would use an ipad mini with its 7.9-inch diagonal LED-backlit display and resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, as that
has a diagonal of 200mm and a 13x18cm enlarger has a diagonal of 222mm, so fits just fine. It has the highest
resolution available currently and a size that just fits.

Not sure however how long it would withstand strong light projected through it.

When digital projectors were a fearsome price for home use, I used the LCD screen of a monitor, and mounted it on top of an overhead projector. This wasn't new - an enthusiastic group of cheapskates had been doing it for a while, and as a result I was able to tap into a fairly substantial knowledge base and avoid some pitfalls.
The taking of a small Ipad screen and mounting it in an enlarger is exactly the same, but the same caveats apply - watch the edge connectors and ribbon cables, sometimes they just won't allow placement away from the driver board and can't be replaced with longer ones. Watch the projected heat from the illumination source - side blast of cooling air is often needed and some ducting must be arranged for that, lighttight, of course.

If you are going to use an iPad as image source for printing - wouldn't it contact print? Has anyone tried contact printing from a tablet?
