The lens of my dreams has arrived
I made a little financial folly for this lens... but I could not resist, I always dreamed of it since I started with photography!

So here it is, I will post a lot about it in the next days. To begin with, a quick snapshot of Melissa, wide open.
Note the bokeh!!!!!!!!

Man, the depth of field is so narrow at f/1.4, that to hit the focus point is pure luck, even with a FA chip adaptor.

Si, Orio!

The movement of the camera when you press the shutter release button might be to much at f1.4 and 85mm!

Nevertheless a great lens! Congratulations on your find!

Carsten

Aw, gee, these are good! Used the 5D? I like how Melissa is sticking her
tongue out at you in the first pic. Laughing The lemon shot is just fantastic!
Congrats, Orio, on your new acquisition! Cool

Yes Bill, it's the 5D. From now on I will take advantage of the full frame for testing the lenses. With a crop camera you may never know what you have at a lens' edges.

What impresses me the most is the way this lens melts everything together in the blurred areas. The black lines of the tiles in the first pictures, are completely blended away. It's the first modern lens that I have, that gets near (not quite of course, but decently close) the type of bokeh of those Meniscus lenses of early 20th century (totally aberration not corrected).

Orio,
It certainly has that "creamy bokeh" quality, with the subject caught with
great detail! Can't wait to see more! Cool

Bill

Just wanted to add another grab from today:

The cat did not want to cooperate on a nice pose, but I am still impressed by the pictorial quality of the bokeh, which is something that I have not seen in any of my own lenses yet. It looks like someone has smeared the balcony wall like rubbing a thumb over fresh oil paint.
Yet, only a few centimeters before, the focus point is perfectly sharp.
And the cat, has volume - it looks like her... well... back side, is going out of the frame.

Really when they talk about the 3D-ness of the Planar lens, it means something.
This lens acts in this respect exactly like my 1.4/50mm, but on steroids!

Yes, a superb lens!

I had it (as well as 1.4/35) for my Rolleiflex SL 35 E (in those days these lenses went for near nothing, for a 'dead' slr-system - I payed only as much as 150 EUR today for it).
Even the Pentax A 1.4/85 couldn't compete.
Sad thing about my old Rolleiflex gear that I had to sell...

I really think it needs a full frame slr (like your 5) to show it's real qualities!
Congrats!
