Congrats! You did terrific at that price. Was that a recent buy??? Because lately you cannot touch this lens at twice that price. I'd have bought it myself had I seen it . . . if recent.

These 24-40's are much sought after today whether in Sun or even Hoya. They are very popular and prices are rising.

And nobody thinks this lens is a turd. Very Happy It's a good lens. That's why it is so popular.

Well, OK: Maybe lens snobs would call it a turd. I'm not one of those myself. Wink

Regarding your YS mount experience:

You did fine, of course, and you bought the lens correctly mount-wise.

YS mounts (speaking now in general) can be tricky if not carefully confirmed prior to purchase. There are some MF lenses with identical specs that were made with, and also without, the highly sought-after YS mounts. Let me show you a lens I just bought this morning. Please focus on the mount:

Now you can see straightaway that lens has a YS mount. But I can report to you with with 100% confidence that precise lens also exists in a fixed-mount version. I can make that report to you because I already own the fixed-mount version which I bought thinking it was YS!!!!

In the case of the 24-40's, I 'm pretty sure my Hoya, for example, has a fixed m42 mount. Naturally most of us want YS when we can get it, just as you did. But care and attention to detail are needed to ferret the YS lenses out.

I bought the lens in January. I think it probably was under the radar and missed by many. Ever once in awhile you can get a good buy if you are lucky.

I scored another pretty good deal on a Sun 38-90 about the same time. It was a Minolta FD mount YS also. I have posted pictures taken with it also on this site, but kinda screwed up the post. It also turns out to be a very decent lens.

I appreciate the information you give!

Wow. Just last month!! You're learning all right. You schnarfed that baby up right out from beneath the noses of many of us on here!! We must have been asleep!! Very Happy

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the lens. You got a great deal!!

On the 38-90, it's another fantastic performer, very highly spoken of back in the day. I picked up a beauty myself, and recently. But not on eBay!! Lens is virtually new and I love it.

Sun really had their act together with these short zooms. They were in a leadership position at the time, "back in the day". Today the popularity of short zooms has . . well . . it has zoomed because of digital cameras. And the Sun series has taken off. There is a third lens in this same Sun zoom series, but it is a bit longer and therefore not quite as popular (still a splendid lens, though).
