Colors are UN-Processed ! Also no contrast or sharpness enhancement.
Just some +1/2 or +1 EV as to compensate my LCD screen that lied to me because it was too light, and also choice of a profil in DDP.
This lens is really a gem I can't think of keeping at home if I'm out. _________________ Switching from M42 to Minolta MD & Contax/Yashica |

I'm very happy with the 5D ! Large viewfinder, gorgeous image quality (called here "velouté") and nice ration ISO/noise because of large photosites, great to handle even if heavier thant the 350D...
It's more a SLR than a dSLR for me now, because of the feeling.
Don't know about the 40D but I think people are happy with it also _________________ Switching from M42 to Minolta MD & Contax/Yashica |

Should I buy one 3 year old technologies or buy 40D |
If you want my suggestion:
- if what you feel is the need for the full frame, then consider only full frame cameras, no matter how new the technology, a crop camera will never give you that.
- if you go for the full frame, and you can wait until september, then I would suggest that you do, because in September the 5D mark II will be released and it's surely going to be a camera largely superior to the current 5D.
The bad side of the coin is that you will lose a springtime and a summer of full frame photographs.
I was faced with the same decision last year this time. The successor to the 5D was already rumoured to be in release. I decided that I could not wait another spring and summer without full frame, and I bought the 5D never the less. At the end of the summer, I thought about my choice, and I was very happy that I choosed to buy the 5D regardless.
So that depends on you, of course if you can wait your money will meet a bigger value in September. But you will have to stay with a crop camera until then.
- if instead you only wish to get a newer camera, regardless of frame format, then try to compare if possible, in the same shop, a 40D and a 450D. I just read that the viewfinder of the 450D is larger than that of the 400D. So you may want to compare the two, because, if there is not much difference in the viewfinder, then the lower price and the 2 Mp more of the 450D are probably the best choice.
If instead the 40D has a noticeably better viewfinder, then it will be worth the bigger expense (although to give up to 2 Mp resolution is not something that will make you smile, especially if you take snapshots and therefore need to crop pictures a lot)

I second Orio's comments.
I had the opportunity (and crazyness) to buy a second hand 5D in december, and I don't regret it a second event if it's more an impulsive buy.
There are also some lenses that could hit the mirror, as the Helios-44-2 whenever you focus to or close infinity... I will slim the lens back soon without worry, it's a cheap one .
I would like to test the 450D too as it looks promising and the kit lens a good one for any trip if you can't take MF lenses. _________________ Switching from M42 to Minolta MD & Contax/Yashica |

Of course I want a full frame and a large viewfinder.
I can afford a 5D at 1900 euros but what I'll miss is the lifeview.
Today my test of the tamron 300 with doubler needed really precise focusing, if I had liveview it would be a piece of cake. _________________ T* |

Then hold on and wait until September. The 5DMkII will surely feature the live view (amongst the other news).
