This lens is tiny.
The Pentax K-10D dwarfs it.
It is capable of very nice results.
Here are some from today's little afternoon walk.

Wow, nice place! You should publish much more landscapes! Smile I like the B&W images the most this time!

Thanks Mark.
Here is the lens on K-10D showing its diminutive size.

Here are some extra images from yesterday.
Remember this is a 50mm lens not a telephoto. Very Happy
Cheers

Inspired by Klaus and his Cassarit, I took out the little Cassar S again this morning.
Overcast and wet so no Asian style piccies sorry - just Australian style Haha

Very nice those came out. Beautiful Rhododendron (or Azalea?) flowers!
A very capable lens indeed despite its tiny size!

Beautiful pictures, beautiful lens. I read the other night that Steinheil München trademarks have all lapsed. If Meyer-Optic Görlitz can be 'reborn', maybe others can too.

Yes great photos. I must try mine again! Of course a lens or camera is only as good as the person using them. Well done.

Resurrecting the name is only that. You are not bringing these old lenses back, they are not the same, and the new manufacturer is unlikely to copy the designs of these old lenses. The high retail price of these modern 'fakes' could have the effect of driving up the prices of the original lenses.

Steinheil and Meyer were good manufacturers of optics for the contract market, chosen because they produced good quality goods consistently and well. They couldn't compare with Zeiss or Leitz for quality but they had a much larger share of the market back in the day.

Aw shucks.
Thanks Steve.
It is such a tiny little thing as well.
Here it is next to a standard 50mm lens. In this case a Yashinon 50mm f2

A nice lens indeed it is, I have a few emanations of it here, too!

That is beautiful!

I had not seen these before.
Somewhere in my folder collection there's a Steinheil 90 or so attached to a 6 x 9.... I wonder...

PS: please refrain from full quotation including all images!
Thanks!

I want this lens really bad since it's one of the most UV transmissive non-specialist lenses out there.

I is quite good but has quite some focus shift. If you want a REALLY good UV lens, get the 5.6/80mm EL-Nikkor enlarger lens (the older chrome/black version ONLY!)

See my site here:

This really is a very nice lens in terms of rendering - absolutely love it so far:

Very nice pictures from this "old fashioned" lens Smile
I do enjoy a triplet ... this would seem to be another variation to look out for Wink
The Cassar exists in several iterations :- the original, the Cassar S (as depicted above), the Cassarit and the Cassaron, all apparently triplets, but my experience of the latter two suggests there are subtle differences between the models ... certainly neither my Cassarit or my Cassaron are as sharp and contrasty as the examples shown Sad
Maybe mine need a clean Wink

Indeed there are quite a few variants of the famous STEINHEIL Triplet lenses; I also noticed that as I have quite a few of them...

Ths is the CASSARIT 2.8/50mm

Great! Some really lovely shots you've taken with that lens. Good to know you appreciate Steinheil lenses as well... I find it quite astonishing what they were able to create with simple 3 or 4 element designs.

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have any of the others mentioned, so I can't compare them myself. I have a couple of Cassar and Cassarit enlarging lenses... but all of those are slower if I remember correctly!

Here is my Cassar family.

I'm not sure why the Paxette Cassarit lenses have different aperture rings.
