Well, I wouldn't go that far, and I used a little too much sharpening on the
maple leaf (this cam has a SHARP lens), but you can't fault its versatility.
Thanks for your comment, Attila! |

The colours, contrast, clarity and detail of this camera are amazing.
Besides, it features an Auto White Balance that I think beats that of my best Canon DSLR.
What you see in the above image has not been retouched in any way except for resizing - and I did not sharpen after resize.
Of course there is the deep DOF which in a P&S at the widest position, has to be expected.
However this is not necessarily a bad thing when shooting with this camera, given the type of use that you normally do with a P&S
P.S. Bill I forgot to write how amazing your maple leaf image is.
P.P.S. Everyone note how deep the greens in my image. They are unretouched. The colours of this camera are really Provia-like. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Even though Melissa is looking away from the camera, it's a great image! I
really love the color rendering from this cam! The one thing I need to watch
out for is oversharpening (a little too much on the maple leaf *thanks for
comment* and the last picture). I have sharpness right at zero in the middle
incamera setting and it is still a sharper image than my Canon G2.
Hope to see more, Orio! We really don't have a section for digital P&S so
I guess the oversized gallery will do (besides, I like to save 1024pix for
flickr). |

Well, the Rangefinder/viewfinder is for both analogue and digital, so that could work.
I posted this thread in Oversized because I wanted to show images a bit larger than the 900 px which is a little punishing image size limit
in my opinion in year 2008 with 1600+ pixels monitors available for 100 Euros in any shop
(you can not really evaluate anything at 900 px size except perhaps for colours),
but we already had a poll about it so we must conform to the result. _________________ Orio, Administrator

I agree, Bill.
This camera does beyond what is average performance of P&S
I would never want an ordinary P&S anymore, but this one is different. Maybe it's the Zeiss lens, but I think there is something to the photos that give a poetic tone. See the cloud in the last picture for instance. When I saw it I was struck by it's beauty and immediately photographed it, while regretting not having with me a full featured camera.
Well, the regret was not necessary - the little devil rendered the cloud exactly like I saw it. I don't know if any of my top end reflex sets would have dome much better.
About the house, it's a villa who used to belong to one of my uncles (a lawyer, rich man). I spent many days there was I was a child, playing with my cousin Marco.
It was sold many years ago, now I don't know who owns it, but it must be someone from not around here, as it's closed most of the times. Probably a rich guy living in Milan or something, that comes here for the weekends. _________________ Orio, Administrator

It was a good marriage between Sony and Zeiss, for sure. In the last the
flare is well-controlled, the lens must have a superb coating. I'm taking mine
out tomorrow, makes a great packaround cam to go with my film cams.
The villa looks marvelous, pity you can't go inside to take pictures. |

Orio, post some of your shots with this cam when you have time, would love
to see them!
I shot a roll of Kodak Gold 100 using the Exakta 500 and the Sonnar 4/135.
Will see what I have tomorrow.
