Here you are with a couple of oldish pictures (actually it is the same picture resized and cropped). Taken with a strange combo: Century Tele Athenar II 650mm plus Leica 1,4x Apo converter plus Oly 1,4x 4/3 converter plus FT to MFT adapter plus E-PL1 body (EFL 2600mm). Manfrotto 055 + 322 head as main support, the secondary (sturdy) support was the steel grating of my window.

I love to take pictures of the Moon, I took hundreds, but this one is the best result I could achieve so far.

NEX-7 & EF 400/5.6L
Not the best of shots, it's not a super-moon, the 400 and all my AF glass is now long gone, it was my longest lens, what to replace it with?

Shot to be proud of! Very high resolution indeed. Though I'm not sure how easy it is for most of us to get the same setup in motion! Talk about tinkering Wink

Not real sure how I could have missed this thread. I too like taking moon pics and I'm glad to see another Century Tele Athenar II user (feruccio and his spectacular pics of the half moon with his 650mm f/6.8 + teleconverters).

I don't recall using teleconverters with my Century Tele Athenars, but apparently I did because there's a shot below taken with my CPO 650 + a Nikon TC14a. Anyway, here is an assortment of mine. No known super moon pics, although I do recall viewing it last August with the naked eye and wondering what all the fuss was about. (with my naked eye I couldn't tell a difference)

I have taken moon shots with a variety of equipment over the years. Here is a comparison of the crescent moon I made between my Century Tele Athenar II 500mm f/5.6 (@ f/8 ) and my Tamron 55BB 500mm f/8 mirror -- a suprisingly good optic, which borders on a refractor in terms of contrast:

Here's a pic of the full moon using my CPO 500mm f/5.6 @ f/8:

Here's a pic of the full moon with my CPO 650mm f/6.8 @ f/11:

And a pic with the CPO 650mm + a Nikon TC14a:

Moonrise of a blood-red moon with my CPO 650mm. Shot taken at ISO 800 with my Canon XS (ISO 800 is very noisy with that camera). I had to use ISO 800 because I was getting motion blur (from the moon's movement) at slower shutter speeds and lower ISO values:

And a half-moon shot with my old Meade 10" LX3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. What a beast that old scope was (10" diameter mirror, about 20" long), but it did take good pics. Nikon F2, Tri-X 400 film.

In addition to the above photos, there are a few more I would like to take that I haven't yet. Sadly, I took no moon pics with my Canon FD 400mm f/4.5 before it was stolen. But I have others still. I haven't tried out my Tamron 300mm f/2.8 LDIF yet. I'll probably use at least one teleconverter behind it. Maybe I'll stack a couple, see how they work out. I've determined through other tests that the Tamron 200-500mm f/5.6 zoom is actually a very sharp optic, so I'd like to give mine a try-out as well. I also haven't taken a full-moon image yet with my Tamron 55BB 500mm f/8 mirror; something I'd like much to do. And finally, I'd like to give it a try with my Sigma 600mm f/8 mirror, see if it can measure up to the Tamron mirror.

Maybe this is a naive question - but I'll ask anyway. Does the moon look 'upside down' in Australia compared to Britain?

^ I believe you answer is yes. The Moon should be flipped.

Here are some of my recent attempts with manual-focus lenses aimed at the Moon.

Konica Hexanon AR 300mm f/3.5 EE.
IMHO, pretty good detail for a 300mm.

That Konica does a surprisingly good job for a 300mm. That must be one helluva lens.

WNG555.. love the first artsy one, what settings did you use to capture that? tried to take pic like that with the moon shining through clouds but couldn't manage it.

I must confess that one was a lucky shot.

It was seat of the pants, adjusting exposure for the quick moving clouds. The Moon was covered more. But by the time the self-timer fired, it peaked through and blown out the photo. But I was able to save it PP-ing (except for that one area). It turned out better than the original composition, which had no cloud depth.

f11 or f16, 1/25" and ISO 500, Auto ISO set to 800 max, and it was the Hexanon 300.

Michael,
Yes, surprised me too when I saw the results. Given that it has been a PITA to focus all this time. Wink
BTW, fantastic Moon shots, my friend! Two thumbs up!

Your Jupiter shot reminded me of one I got a couple years ago.

Canon EOS XS, Century Precision Optics 650mm f/6.8, ISO 100

This image is a 100% crop. Taken with a 10.1mp Canon XS and a Century Precision Optics Tele Athenar II 650mm f/6.8. The aperture was probably set to wide open, although I don't recall anymore. I was surprised that it captured as much detail as it did.

Oh, nice topic. Very Happy

I made tests with different combos in december 2013 with Olympus Pen E-P2 wich had gain in range in comparison with 5D MkII.

The Pen E-P2 has stabilisation.

Hi, guys. Smile
I'm new to this forum, although i've been visiting a lot of times, every now and then.

Here's my two cent moon shot - it's actually a composition, that showcases this month "Supermoon", and a moderately-far-not-so-full moon from last year's spring. Slightly diferent processing routine and color balance, but the scale is real. Shots made using the Tair 3S 300/4.5 lens, @f/8, and a 2x teleconverter.

I like my Tair very much, although it's a bit old and sometimes that shows (and i'm not refering only to CA), however it's nice to have it at hand when needed.
