The Rollei lens has a noble pedigree, it was designed by the very Erhard Glatzel
(the same genius who designed the most famous Distagons 1.4/35, 2/28, 3.5/15)
The 1.7 Planar of Contax line is more recent and was not designed by Glatzel
it is probably sharper than the Rollei lens, but I think the 1.7 is more "Japanese" in character
than the typical Zeiss lens.
The Rollei lens has a rounder image rendition that is more
similar to the old Contarex lenses and for this reason I like it very much.
