Fits easliy in a parka pocket, yet is reasonably fast---what's not to like? Close focus 1 meter.

yes, this is really a great lens, both on m4/3 (love it on my ep2) and rf film (took beautiful pix on my rollei 35rf) i like this best of all m39/m mount lenses ive tried on pure iq basis.

your shots are very nice and i think you will come to use this more and more as outdoor portrait lens...the colors and skin tones are marvelous.

I have this lens in both Leica screw and M42 mount for Bessa and Bessaflex (and others), no regretting the duplication at all.

I've spent a lot of time trying to find the Voigtländer SL Color-Heliar 75/2.5 in Nikon (N/Ai-S) mount, so far unsuccesfully... the images look very nice to me.

We are talking two different lenses here, the MC is different lens than the SL. Confusingly same name though

Original post is MC version, I have been looking for the SL version, rare but available in Nikon mount: http://www.cameraquest.com/jpg4/SL_75_d.jpg

The dimensionality in the mountain range photo, the bar photo and the cars (especially last) is almost hand-felt. It looks like this lens has a very nice character and crisp detail, I really like the look in those photos.

+1 and I can understand now why you are looking for the Nikon version Very Happy ......Does the Nikon version SL have the same optical design as the CV one's?

Anyway, it seems to be a fantastic combo with the NEX, and the pictures made with the CV 4/21mm are also realy great!.....

I don't know for sure but I think the rangefinder 75/2.5 MC Color-Heliar differs slightly, because the Voigtländer 75/2.5 SL Color-Heliar has a minimum close focusing distance of 0.7m (can anyone confirm the MC focuses to 1.0m?). This is probably mount differentiator, rangefinder vs. mirror camera body.

MC must mean multicoated, does that mean the SL is not multicoated?

No, the SL is also multicoated as well. The MC is used in the rangefinder World to distinguish the Color-Heliar from older versions of the lens. The SL (which are SLR lenses) have no predecessor, and are not branded with MC because it is standard for year 2000 lenses to all be multi-coated.

I began my lens binge with the classic SLR stuff, the affordable ones anyway. SInce my platform is the nex, I could basically ignore mounts. Once I had the kiron 105 and a bokina, I grabbed nFD canons 20/2.8 and 24/2--all of which are just great. The tilt adapter brought me back to nikon, and I found a 28/2, 55 micro, and a 180 AIS ED. But slowly the RF possiblites with the nex sank in. The old canon stuff is wonderful, and not terribly dear--untill you get wide.

My first CV was a 35 Skopar and the "3D" seperation really hit me. Also the colorshift, which I am still dealing with. Some of these CVs are so small--the camera literally goes in your jacket pocket. I did not expect the wonderful sharpness and seperation. I found a 28 f/3.5 and shot it alongside the nikon 28/2 and was frankly shocked at how sharp it is. At some point I'll do some real comparisions and you can see.

This 75 has no color shift, and is really small AND respectably fast at 2.5. It has a very short focus throw, and you have to really watch it--but when you hit it's plenty crisp and shows great seperation as you note. The hood is built in and the cap never falls off--great design.

The 21 also has the huge colorshift, is not fast at all, but you can see in the car shots how good it is.

Next I fell for the 35 1.4, which is a controversial lens, but also has the incredible seperation of the 75 and the 35 skopar. It's very good in low light.

But there was one final seduction. Everyone wants something REALLY fast. I have a canon FL 1.2 55, which is OK--quite good OOF rendering, not the sharpest wide open, but acceptable, however the weight, 480 grams, combined with the long adapter needed for SLRs--it was a pain to carry.
here the FL wide open:

bigger
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5252/5554082352_1296553d22_b.jpg
I then became fixated on the 1955ish canon RF 50 1.2 which is 360 grams and on par with the FL. But they are going for 600+. One slipped into RFF for 400, but I was too slow. A nice one on the ebay is at 535 with 4 hours to go:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250788100713&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I tried one but had to send it back as unusable. Brian over at RFF told me I'd be better of just going for the nokton 50 1.1. It's 428 grams but uses the M adapter so is very close in on the nex. It's about as sharp as a lens can be at 1.1. The OOF is not that dreamy--more like a 50 summilux, but not terrible either.

The best deals seem to be around 800, so I went looking. This showed up with not much description:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=120699869047&si=WF1X5lElB%252BQSmbCzdz3cpqKcBb4%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

it sat at 740. So I said what the hech and punched in 770, fully expecting to be outbid by 5 bucks as so often happens. But no, I won and it comes on friday. Turns out it was bought new in feb 2010, but has seldom been out of the box, and comes with a nice filter. Of course you never know for sure till you see it.

Huge money for one lens in my income bracket, but I figure I'm just renting it, hehe.

The last CV I'm hunting is the 25 snapshot, which can occasionally be found in the neighborhood of 200.

It also has the colorshift, but once I get some good grey card shots I should be able to deal with all the CV wides in the free program Cornerfix.

well, with that extended confession on the books, here are some shots from today. It was mostly overcast, with some slivers of sun.

the CV 21:

note uncorrected color shift

here the CV 75

I've been very lazy with archiving lens image samples, I am too occupied with running my photo business and raising a baby daughter. This is what a quick find could produce

75/2.5 on the left, the others are 180/4, 125/2.5 & 90/3.5

After new year I can grab some lightbox images of the lens and the hoods (LH-75 in this image, also have LH-75S square hood for it). It's pitch dark here with only a few hours of dusk, weather's been shit and forecast for New Year is rain and +1C, let's see if weather would change for something more encouraging for a photo walk with the lens.
