Just received the S.M.C. Takumar 28mm f3.5, wanted one even though I have a A28mm f2.8 since I wanted a 28+35+50+105+135 Takumar M42 set.
Hasn't someone ' Orio?, asked in the recent 28mm thread of Lucis Pictore even asked for this comparison?
Anyway, here some charts
all taken RAW on Pentax *istDs, converted in Lightroom including default settings of LR for this camera which are applied automatically when loading, cropped in Photoshop, for the 100% crops additional auto contrast applied in Photoshop
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I do not know how much this kind of comparison tells you..
I also have takes of the following three scenes, taken with both lenses at f3.5 and f8 and f2.8 on the A lens
A 28mm f8:
S.M.C.Tak 28mm f8:
S.M.C.Tak 28mm f8 focus at infinite:
of this last photo I have 2 sets, one with focus at infinity and another with focus at 3 meter.
If you interested in any of these photos, 100% crops or also original sizes, please tell me what you want, what could give you the best information, or which kind of different photo I better shoot.
thank you,

Interesting, as at some point I will have that Takumar, and I have the A lens already.
Despite the auto-contrast you do (this will hide any low contrast issues) I still see one of the characteristics of the A - the tones seem lighter or perhaps less concentrated than with the Tak. I've grown to appreciate this characteristic, as to me the lens is plain spoken and direct as a result. No drama queen!
The Takumar is typically solid saturated and very resolute, a family trait.
Two very nice lenses, and your samples simply make my determination to own a sample of the Takumar all the more solid. Thanks _________________ -Jussi

The markets in japan are so clean, it´s a very clean land, I see. The 28mm/3,5 is in my near, I should get one in 10 days, then I will add your test.

Hallo Andi!
TAK: more Contrast, more Colour
A 28: more Sharpness
the TAK brings more life - the A needs a couour- softwarepush
both are good, the A28 with finetuning on the cam to get more contrast is perhaps a little bit better

estudleon, are you referring to the filter shown in my photo of the lens, or to an inherent element of the lens?
- as all the photos shown were taken without filter.

great, happy to know that estudleon.
For Pentax lenses I just was about to recommend a 50mm f1.4, I'd think a must for any MF lens lover! But then I read in you signature that you already do have one. Another which I personally, with my limited experience though, find even more desireable than the 28mm, at least IQ wise, is the Takumar 35mm f3.5
( see: http://forum.mflenses.com/super-takumar-35mm-f3-5-t6977.html )
best regards,
