Why should I get a 300 mm with me if I could use a 200 mm and enlarge it 150% ?
I made a small comparison between tamron sp 300 5.6 and contax 80-200 at 200mm with 150% software enlargement.
The difference doesn't look so big

100%crop tamron-contax

Poilu,

The Contax is quite more sharp, to my perception...

The Contax colours are better as well (for me at least).

The Contax has nearly zero chromatic aberration...

A fair test would be to compare equaly sharp lenses.

Not much to say, Contax zoom outperforms the Tamron SP lens even when upsampled!

Sadly it was only at F5.6 Embarassed
At F8 dreams end and tamron show his true value

yes - but - let's not forget that:
- Contax is a zoom while Tamron is a SP prime
- Contax is upsampled, Tamron is not
- for a long tele, it is more important to offer best performance at f/5.6 than at f/8
