Just bought these two lenses. Do some have experience with any of them? Very Happy

Both of them are wonderful, the 42mm isn't the sharpest wide open but it makes up for that with a lovely character. The 60mm is one of my all time favourites. Congratulations and looking forward to seing your pictures!

congrats, amazing, very rare lenses!
The 1.2/42 is said to be rather soft wide open, though I have had a few chances to buy it I have so far resisted, now curious about your results! The f1.5/60 is amazing, just like the 1.4/40 sharp from wide open, both are real favorites!

I also have the 38mm, so I thought it would be nice to jump over the 40mm for now, but the 40 also seems to be a really good lens indeed Very Happy What would be the right price tag on these two lenses I bought as a bundle now? Surprised

Love those lenses from i was a kid.

Almost all fast normals designs should lost a bit of sharpnest and contrast wide open to obtain better rendering at medium apertures and free of aberrations.

the 1.8/38 imo is very different to the 1.4/40, the 38 has a very distinct bokeh, the 42 is a specialty lens too, the 1.4/40 is more 'conventional'.
Difficult to say what's a 'normal price' for both are very rare. If I remember right I have seen buy nows for each one of up to 1000 usd, and would think that around 650 for the 1.2/42 and around 750 for the 1.5/60 are good prices.

As you can see, the 42/1.2 is a little bit soft but still very useable wide open. But remember that this test was done close to minumum focus distance, I would say that the Pen behaves better at medium distance.

I agree, the bokeh of the 38mm has its characteristics, so I guess the 40mm is more "nutral" in between the 38mm and the 42mm?
I paid quite alot for the two lenses, but less than $1300 Wink

Thx! Little soft yes, but not that bad. Yes, I hope the 42mm is good for "people shoots" with slightly bigger framing than conventional portraits. Wink How about the bokeh and sharpness when stopped down one step?

PEN F lenses are quite nice lenses to adapt to both APS-C and m43 with small adapters like LTM.
Olympus also made some really good glass to the Pen system.

I love the Canon LTM lenses Very Happy

I love my Takumars but now I always use NEX and GXR M and on these cameras RF and Pen-F lenses simply a much better fit and therefore I am getting more and more of those. Less the 1.2/42 and 1.5/60 but generally I consider both, some Pen-F and some Canon RF lenses, to be the best deals out there for small lenses, for wide angles some new CVs.
Recently I got LTM Canon 1.8/50 and 3.5/100 but I was unlucky and both have milky glass, the 50 still useable, the 100 rather not.. Sad Still I liked the results well enough that I decided to try to get other, good copies of both, the 1.8/50 will arrive with me soon.
Hoan please make some presentation of your Canon LTMs, possibly some comparison of your 3 50mm

I couldn't agree more, I collect more and more "small" lenses. I have also collected LTM (canon LTM and Braun Paxette) and PEN lenses lately. But I also use C-mount lenses and Pentax 110 quite a lot. The Canon 100mm f/3.5 is one of my favorite lenses, I hope you find a better one! Very Happy

I am using the 1.2/50 for the moment as I am really exciting about this lens.
According to many reviews, this lens also rated as poor, or poorer than its cousins Very Happy

I am collecting samples with and without post processing, for now f1.2 only.
Shooting at f1.2 is not an everyday task.

My 1.8/50 has slightly fungus on the edge, but it should not affect the image from a crop sensor.

I also have the canon rf 3.5/135 ltm, but only used once. sharp, but as for rf lenses, it rather seems to be heavier than others.
My fav of mid tele is 4/90 leitz or rokkor, but also contaxG 2.8/90.

Looking forward to see more samples from the fast pen F lenses.

when you have fungus on the edge of a lens its not the format that hides it, its the fstop. you have to stop it down proportionally
to eliminate the possibility of the fungus affecting the image.

yes I think so too, more neutral and therefore also more universally useable ( of course I like 'specialty' lenses but usually I am limited to the number of lenses that I carry in my suitcase and therefore for most to be well useable in many circumstances is important )
The 1.40 and 1.5/60 imo share the characteristic that, with main subject well exposed, the oof areas sometimes, of course depending on lighting situation, are rendered brighter than by other lenses and that can enhance subject separation.

Because I use cameras with APS-C sensors I have not dared to use C mount or Pentax 110 lenses though I guess that starting from around 50mm most should work well on APS-C too. Can anybody confirm?

Canon 100mm f/3.5 is very good indeed. The PEN F 100mm f/3.5 is also just as good, but slightly bigger.

C mount lenses from around 50mm should work good on APS-C, but I have one Soligor 2" lens that vignettes slightly on m43 too, so there is no rule in "blueprint" that all lenses from 50mm should cover APS-C.

Braun Paxette lenses can be found for cheap. I have seen 35mm, 38mm, 50mm, 85mm, 90mm and 135mm focal length lenses in Braun Paxette m39 mount. You need an Braun Paxette m39 to LTM m39 adapter to get the right register distance. I have found 3 of these adapters on eBay. And they usually comes with the lens and is difficult to discover as they seem to look like they are a part of the lens.

I don't really have any favorite Braun Paxette lense. They are in general compact, well built lenses with average IQ. But the 35mm lenses are nice "everyday" walk around lenses and much cheaper than the 35mm LTM lenses out there Wink

that's a very nice looking lens - and the adapter too Shocked

I am still using the canon 50/1.2 ltm and also collect samples from pentax A50/1.2 to compare.
Here's what it looks like, taken with pentax A 50/1.2 at f1.2 tilt.
