Using Fuji Pro 800z film which doesn't seem to perform as well as the
120:

When I look at the Electronic Rangefinder in the upper right portion of
the VF and then look back at the image it looks blurred, probably because
my old eyes can't adjust quick enough from one distance to the next. Laughing

I'm more bothered by the grain. It may have come with the scanning and that's my problem with presenting film through this digital medium. We rarely see what the owner of the film/slide sees because of the extra (imperfect) step

Thanks, Patrick, yeah, I'm pretty appalled by the grain. These were
processed/scanned by CVS, too.

Hi Bill
I like the last one very much. Reminds me of an MC Escher (oh crap. Know I spelled that wrong) painting.

It's impressive to me that you get straight to business with your new cameras.
Mine tend to loiter about for a while before I can try them.
One cure for the grain is to view with a PDA.
Honestly don't see what you and Patrickh are talkng about Wink But I take your word on it .

Thanks, Andy, I didn't use the ERF on the koi shots thinking the camera
would be fooled by the surface of the water.

Have a roll of Provia 400x ($12.50 a roll from Freestyle) that I'll be
trying next, woops, after a roll of C-41 Kodak BW400CN.

Very soft rendition in all pix ( apart 3rd ), looks like a good film for portaits Very Happy little grain but its nice, i like this.

I am sure the grain is due to low resolution scanning. Try shooting with the Provia and have them scanned high resolution (I have them scanned minimum 3140 X 2048 at 96 ppi). In this way you can resize for web viewing and print at decent sizes. Also I get them scanned in .tif so that less details are lost. You would be blown out how the velvia renders in a high resolution scan.

I concur.

What scanner were you using? Have you checked the scanner settings? This looks like what I got when I had scan quality set to FAST and a default film profile applied to film selection.

While many scanner software include film profiles for common brands some brands require you to do a benchmark profile scan and save settings before you get the real results.

Grain does not look bad on #1 in my opinion. It adds to the soft atmosphere.

I don't see any grain and I found the contrast very good
my fav is also #3

Thanks, guys, these are CVS scans that generally come out a lot better
than this. I'll try scanning some of these on my scanner to see if there's
an improvement.

Orio, that was probably my best shot out of the bunch.

Poilu, thanks, she's my favorite, too. Wink This is from Anna Karenina,
but I could take some pics of her other films and get kicked off the forum. Laughing

Thanks again, gents.
