I know they sold the Praktica Super TL as the "Cavalier STL-1" and rebranded other makes too. Does it say where it was made? (Japan I assume) |

Thank you "Mos6502","casualcollector" and "iangreenhalgh1" for the quick feedback.
Just to affirm that this lens is in the same pedigree like the cosinon, rikkenon, mamiya, tomioka et al- I swapped 2 of rear elements as they had some uncleanable residue of sorts. I replaced it with the elements from a Mamiya ,which I'd been saving up. They fit perfectly .
I paid about $35 for this lens including shipping.
All images shot wide open with a Sony Alpha 700
and a crop of the above

I have almost all of the 50, and 55 mm f1.4 in the Japanese lenses -mainly what people label as Tomioka i.e Cosinon, Rikenon, Yashinon, Mamiya, Revuenon etc. This performs @ par. The focus ring is different looking but very smooth.
You should def. get a good copy-they're great for low light. _________________ kathmandu

Cheers, I bought a Canon FD 1.4/50 SSC but having a nightmare getting the screws out to clean out the fungus and stuck aperture (neither of which the seller mentioned!) so I am indeed in the market for a 1.4 50/55, I want to use it with my NEX for low light work. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Thank you- It was a fairly straightforward swap. For both the donor and donee lens-The retaining ring of the back cell just unscrews and you have access to the 2 back-most elements immediately. _________________ kathmandu

The Fujinon EBC is a super lens in that focal range.
Dunno if this will help but a member here-"Hinnekar"- has detailed tutorial on opening and converting FD lenses , on a German site somewhere. I have gotten in from the front by unscrewing the namering with a rubber friction tool.
Good luck. _________________ kathmandu

Good work! Looks like it has an unusual grip, but agree that it looks like the usual 55/1.4 lens (I had a Super Reflecta labelled version). I presume this is the later Cosina made model. _________________ Graham - Moderator
