They need to compete against the cheap Nikon D40. The problem is not only that of selling the cameras, it's also that all those newcomers will stick to the system they choose (Canon or Nikon) for a long time, buying more of their products.

I bet that there is a lot of 350D or 400D owners that would like to have the new image-stabylized crappykitlens Smile

@ Cosmin,

A company over here in the UK are selling the 1000D as body only.

Not suggesting you get it from them but the option is there in the UK at least.
