Yes, I wanted a small pocketable cam to carry everywhere, but I was refusing to pay the same price that the good old SLRs are reaching nowadays...

So I've found a cheap but powerful cam that has everything I wanted:

- A 12Mpix sensor (Samsung quality)
- A S P M dial and modes
- OLED screen (to be able to watch it under our strong sunlight
- with a lens covering from 24mm upwards (18x zoom!)
- lightweight
- in the range of 100€

Well the WB690 has everything, I only miss the ability of shooting RAW, but I think I can live without for this kind of casual.

It comes with a special USB cable that can be used to charge the battery and to transfer the pictures at once. No external charger is provided. The storage is on standard SD/SDHC cards.

Some pictures of this small beauty:

And a few shots taken this morning under strong sunlight:

Regards.
Jes.

Mine, taxes included was 109€. It's a rebate of Media Markt, if you want one I can try to find one for you. Wink

Congrats Jes. I too am a Samsung compact user nowadays, but I settled for the more expensive EX-1, which is really impressive and has the fastest lens ever mounted on a compact and a very useful swivel screen. A mint example can be had for under 200€ on ebay, like I did on mine. I posted some pictures from this weekend in the EX-1 thread.

A tip for your camera: if it has an RGB picture mode, set it to -1 green to balance the usual Samsung green cast common to all its cameras. With these cameras, especially at 80 ISO, you don't need raw: Samsung's colors are fantastic. Here is what my EX-1 produces in camera with only the addition of a polarizer:

Thanks for the hint, Ludoo!.
And yes, the EX-1 is nice Smile

But I have to disagree on the "fastest lens ever on a compact camera" if you consider the Olympus C-5050z a compact one Wink

Regards.

That's a neat bit of kit Jes - what's the shutter delay like on it?

Agree, Jes, looks like a nice outfit indeed. Did an ebay search and no offers. They probably
assigned a different model # for their US export. Maybe I should do a search for WB666 and
see what that brings. Laughing j/k

Thanks, Bob. I really didn't notice any shutter lag until you asked the question, so probably is short enough to not to have to take care of it.

This picture was taken "on the fly" when I was walking:

I had to redress the horizon and to crop a bit, but my feeling is of a quicr response time.
Anyway I'll check it in the next pictures.

Regards.
Jes.

Bill: The WB690 and the WB750 are the evolution of the WB700, one ithe cheaper sister of the other. According to what I've read, the WB700 had some design flaws that were corrected in the later ones. Not a popular (yet) cam family but I think is really promising. I feel very much like shooting with the NX100.

Regards.
Jes.

Cheers Jes - it's more for my sister who wants a compact camera with a decent zoom that takes the pic when you press the shutter release and not around a day later...

I'm quite tempted myself though... Laughing

You are right, they were kissing for long time, but I passed quickly in front of them. The proof was my speed Wink

Joking here by the way. Smile
