Nice test! Thank you to share with us Smile
I have both lenses, but unfortunately the Minolta has aperture problem, so did not have the chance to compare both, other than only wide-open...
Anyway your test showed what I already expected:
a) Pleasant bokeh and transactions regarding Minolta
b) Hexanon's colors are a bit "washed-out" when compared with Rokkor

Wonder if their ‘little’ sisters 57/58 f/1.2 have same behaviour!!

regards

I don't see so much differences regarding the bokeh but the minolta seems to be more contrasty and sharper than the Konica, at least with your samples at web size......

From these images (at this resolution), Minolta seems slightly better under most of the aspect I consider when I evaluate a lens's performance.

The difference is really thin, anyway, under these conditions

not the best photos to test for color. for that i think you need shots of multicolored scenes where most things of color are in focus.

on everything else, i give a slight nod to minolta.

This is so close that if you posted photos from one of the lenses, people would be hard pressed to guess which lens they came from.

scenes #2 and #3 are a bit brighter with the Konica
I think this is what gives the impression of washed out colours

To me they are same, no significant difference.

Konica shots seem slightly "washed out" on my screen. Just playing with the images in processing software completely transforms their appearance . . .

I wonder if the Konica has some slight amount of fogging/misting internally? The level of what might pass for overexposure is quite small. But the lens is clearly capable of being very good !

Yes, to me too, differences are small enough that they are barely apparent.

I would enjoy seeing a series from each of these lenses rather than a direct comparison, that would, I think, tell us much more about each lenses character and relative merits. Smile

OMG, I find myself agreeing with Ian. A series of nice photos from each will also probably make it impossible to tell the difference in lenses, or at least what lens was used for each picture.

hmmm I think web size effect on IQ. in original file. I found opposite for scene #2 with red color. Konica slightly better.
You guys right. We need to check other shots, but it needs times. will report stop down comparison.
Oh one more, the Konica has no haze or fog issue. but yes, Minolta is in better condition Wink almost mint. while Konica has mark of use.

There's little 'real world' difference between these two very good lenses, the only reason to criticize one is because the other has a very slight difference - which might, or might not be, better in the eye of the individual judging them both together.
I'll go with the Minolta though, to me it's a better looking image.

I've just looked again at the pictures on a different monitor (not my own) and on this screen there is virtually no difference between the two lenses . . . unlike my own where it's really apparent.

I think I like Konica better - for color and contrast.
For bokeh, Minolta is better.
