On this camera you can REALLY see the difference that the best lenses make:

It's a depression that is not hard to cure, Trifox. This lens can be easily found for around 120 Euros. ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ Orio, Administrator

I focused with liveview. On the tripod, liveview is hard to beat!
However for the sake of curiosity, I also tried the same shot by focusing with katzeyes microprism collar, and by focusing by FA chip of the Big IS adapter.
All three results were de facto identical. _________________ Orio, Administrator

thanks Larry. The clarity is a cooperation of the lens and the 50D.
In fact the clarity, more than the sharpness itself, is what impresses me.
It looks like medium format like clarity. I hardly ever obtained that with my digital cameras - a few times with the 5D only, so far. _________________ Orio, Administrator

right, I was not thinking about that.
Well, unfortunately the 50D is not as affordable as the Planar ![Sad](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) _________________ Orio, Administrator

I have the 1.7/50 and i agree too, it has become my primary lense.. Simply can't take it off the camera.
One of the great features of it is to be used in reverse as a macro, capable of doing a 1:1 . Thnx to Attila for bringing that to my notice...
I also have the 1.4/40 SMC Tak.
What do you guys suggest is it still worth going for the Planer 1.4/50 & does it do the same kinda macro ??
ORIO if possible please upload some more shots from this combo. Its a treat ! _________________ Yashica ML 2.4/24, ML 2.4./28,

There will be no difference for macro. In macro you don't use the lens wide open, and the 1.7 is as sharp as the 1.4.
The advantage of the 1.4 is in the half stop more and in the dimensional rendition of the objects (3d), things that are not important for macro.

Ooh so 3D rendering would be different too. That is what i was intrested in.
Orio would it be possible to explain how ?
And another related query is differece between pancolar & planer design.
#Macro ofcourse is a surplus, asked about it so that i can sell off 1.7 if i find a 1.4 planner _________________ Yashica ML 2.4/24, ML 2.4./28,

I don't know how, but the 1.4/50 has more of that.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that Pancolar is a double-gauss optical scheme like the Planar. _________________ Orio, Administrator
