Today I took 2 of the 3 lenses I got recently as mention here.

http://forum.mflenses.com/what-a-suprise-t19924.html#171170

I tried to clean the Rokkor 45mm front glass which got fungus but I kind of screwed it up. I tried to force one piece of glass to come out, it indeed jumps out but fell to the ground and shattered. Crying or Very sad

Now I left with Minolta 50mm f2 and Tele Rokkor-QD 135mm f3.5. Here are some photos taken with the 2 lenses.

1st up are Minolta 50mm f2

shot thru the windows of the bus i am on

shot in the bus

Next up is the Tele Rokkor-QD 135mm f3.5

All taken wide open. Amazed by its color, contrast and sharpness ! Laughing

MD 50/2 of yours looks better than mine, anyway among my Minolta lenses
MD 45/2, MC PG 50/1.4 (55mm), and MC PG 58/1.2 are recommended by me,
which does not mean much but you will know someday. Very Happy

Congratulations for getting Rokkors

In here MFlenses, we have not much of Minolta talks.
Keep coming Minoltan....

I like the bus shot too. Looks like a successful acquisition. Envy that 100 macro!

Probably the nicest Rokkor I have is the MD Rokkor 85mm F2

It is very sharp, beautiful bokeh, lovely lens.

Oh yah , I wanted to find out more about Minolta lenses. It seem so confusing. So far I know Minolta Celtic is something like Nikon Series E but what about those letters behind Rokkor-X like PF PG QD QC QD ?? Like the 50mm f1.7 , it got some many variants like Rokkor-X , Rokkor-X PF . Any different in build , quality etc ?

I found this on the ebay, rather cheap it got PF behind

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Minolta-MC-ROKKOR-X-PF-50mm-Lens-1-1-7_W0QQitemZ170379482137QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item27ab689419&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I just won and paid for this which got only Rokkor-X

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220471434317&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Any difference between them ? Shall I take the PF ?

In 1980 I bought a minolta XG9 with 2,8/35, 2/45 (with the cam) and 3,5/135. All new and MD lenses.

The 2/45 surprised to me. It was the cheaper normals option. Although it was Single Coat, had good colors and contrast. Good resolution power too. Small and light lens. Very good user.

The 3,5/135 was very good too. The rendering was similar to the 2/45 (something more contrast).

Don't remember the 2,8/35.

Rokkors are nice, I really love the 58/1.2 (who doesn't?) but the others are great too. I've converted the 35/1.8 MC to EOS, and also have 21/2.8, 100/3.5 macro, 50/1.4, 58/1.4, 45/2 and probably others to convert sometime soon.

the 100/3.5 macro, which was I think the first 1:1 100mm macro of it's kind at the time, was loved by Modern Photography when they tested it back in the 70s or 80s. I have the test scanned, will post soon. I don't have the 1:1 tube yet but will eventually. Even as-is, 1:2 is pretty good and useful.

I only have a few Minolta lenses:

Pre-MC:
Auto Rokkor-PF 58/1.4 (3 examples, two early, one late)
Auto W. Rokkor-HG 35/2.8 (early type)

First series MC (bright aperture ring)
MC Rokkor-PF 58/1.4
MC W. Rokkor-HG 35/2.8

MD Rokkors:
50/1.4 (3 examples, early and two late versions)
35-70/3.5 (non-macro on which the Leica equivalence was based)

Plain MDs:
16/2.8
28/2.8
50/2
50/1.7
85/2

If you take your time and buy selectively they would not be too expensive - at least most of them anyway; all of them are very potent tools for taking pictures.
