MC Peleng 8mm f3.5 A - Fisheye Circular

Always wanted to see through the red eye of HAL 9000, the crazy computer from 2001 : A Space Odyssey ? That possible with that lens made in Belarus ! Very Happy

All that pics were shot with a Pentax K10D, so, it's more like a 12mm on it...

What can I say about it ? Very fun, very nice but very expensive ! Thanks to my brother Flor27, I'm using it for free ! Razz

Too smooth with f3.5, I think it's beter in 5.6. Be careful : it's sometimes a mess to hide your feet or your fingers with that almost 180° view ! Wink

The Paris Metro really reminds me of the 2001:ASO starship!

Is the first image perhaps taken from the windows of the modern art museum Centre Pompidou?

Nice photos, Trypode8. Thanks for sharing.

But I want that Peleng Evil or Very Mad really bad.

I love the application of the fisheye effect in that shot looking down to the circular lobby! My head is spinning! Shocked

nice photos.great context for this lens. I wish ihad one. It looks like fun to think with a fishy-eye!

many says fisheye work by surprise but are boring if you see them too often.
trypod shots are first class, very well composed.
The second one with the compass look like a eye, a clock or whatever your imagination see.
Incredible the 3 last metro shot's. Usually such place are always full of people. Empty and clean they bring you in another dimension.
Such nice photos can be printed very big and wake up every boring wall.
I am sure trypod will find many more genius use of this fisheye.

I keep thinking about getting a fish-eye but they're so expensive for a lens I'm unlikely to use very often but on the otherhand for those few uses they can produce great shots... Maybe I'll find a badly listed one cheaply at sometime...

Hi everyone, it's a pleasure to see that the Peleng attracts fanatics in here ! Razz

Actually, that's a real clock. It's located in the station Saint-Lazare. I shot it opened in 3.5, that was one of my first shot with that 8mm. I need to do it again, in 5.6, with a tripod.

Shocked Gosh ! That's just great ! That Pentax 10-17 is expensive but very good !

Anyway, thank you for your comments everyone !

I send one interesting application with the fisheye : panoramic photography. That is my first attempt, I use Hugin for the composition (this is not perfect) :

Hi,

I post here again to ask you pros a question. For the moment, I'm using the Peleng like this :

Peleng -> T mount to M42 screw -> M42 mount to K -> Pentax K10D

In order to remplace the medium part (2 adaptors), I would like to buy a T mount adaptor to K mount, but I don't know if I need to buy a T or T2 mount ?

There is nothing inside the actual T mount : no internal or inside screw thread. I saw that T2 mount got inside screw, like this :

http://forums.futura-sciences.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=17599&d=1172858771

Is there T2 mount without inside screw ? Or do I need T mount ?

Thank you guys !

Thank you niblue !
I'm sorry for my terrible english, I think that my question wasn't been understood. Embarassed

I need a T mount adaptor, but clean inside : no thread like the picture I posted. Any clue ?

Nope! I thought all the T-mount lenses were a screw fitting so I don't understand how the lens fits into the mount otherwise. What fitting is there on the end of you Peleng if you take the T->M42 adaptor off?

Some pictures are clearer than a long discussion sometimes :

The T-Mount adaptor to M42 (see inside : nothing)

The backside of the Peleng : nothing too.

I hope it's clear now. Confused

This Peleng->M42 adapter is the same as on the Jupiter-11, it's maintained with only 3 screws. I also have the same adapters for EOS and Nikon mounts, shipped with the Peleng. It looks lit a T2 without inner screw thread.

Any idea where to find this adapter for Pentax K mount ?

PostPosted: Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:55 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Pardon me for butting in but I don't think this is a T adapter at all. The Peleng is supplied with different interchangeable mounts, similar to the old Orestegors with their M42 and Exakta mounts. The mount is part of the lens, not a separate adapter. As far as know, the manufacturers BeLOMO supply only M42 and Nikon mounts - to match current Zenit and Kiev camera mounts.

The way to use it with a K10D would be to fit the M42 mount on the Peleng and use a M42>PK adapter ring.

I have exchanged this mount between the Peleng and a Jupiter-11 so I suspect it's sort of well know mount, Peleng and J-11 are not made ar the same factory, are they ?

I really don't know Flor. During the USSR days the production of a particular lens was often shared between various factories. Looking at Google Images of the J-11 I found one made by Zavod Arsenal in Kiev but the picture on the MFL website shows one made by KOMZ at Kazan in Russia. There must have been a standard design they worked to, so maybe the mount is standard too. Michael is our expert on Russian lenses, maybe he can give a better answer.

This is a mind-boggling picture Carsten. Whenever I see a distorted image from a fish-eye lens my brain tries to straighten it out. Usually it's not too difficult, but with this image it's impossible!

I just bought me this fisheye lens, its well made, with an adaptor for my Canon 5DMkII.

What I've seen, from my first couple of shots, the glass is pretty sharp! Focusing its not required, I set the infinity mark on the f/stop mark, and I receive excellent and crisp images from infinity to a very near distance.

The large frontlens must be watched, and flare and reflections can enter into the image easily! That's the only disadvanted I guess of any fisheye lens!

I am pleased with this lens!
