I shot this close-up with my Distagon 2.8/25 on the 5D:
This image is a crop of a resize:

And the following is the original image at full 100% size (click on thumbnail to enlarge - note that when the Imageshock screen shows up, it will be resized to your computer's screen size. To see the photo at the 100% resolution size, you have to click on the image again) :

This image was taken hand-held with the Distagon 2.8/25mm close to it's focusing limit of 25mm.
I believe to have read that the newer versions of this lens (for Nikon, Leica M and M42) can focus even closer.

I think that this image shows well the incredible potential of this lens, even in it's older Contax version.
I don't think that the autofocus wideangles of today, even of "L series", can make a much better image than this one.
Actually I bet that if I showed this image on a Canon forum saying I took it with a L lens, everybody would start raving about it Wink

Stunning scene beautifully composed and captured. This is a great combination - might have to get me one of those...

What a gorgeous lens Orio - u are really making me rethink my whole outfit. and Attila - I checked and most of my pictures are taken well under infinity, which means I shall now go seriously off to look at a M42 adaptor for my D70. You guys are really bad for my restricted budget. Laughing

Hahaha, we are always fight on lens budget ... Take some good M42 lens you will get a new word cheaply. I love Nikkor lenses so much, but I think many old and quite cheap M42 lenses are good as Nikkors. For example I compared my Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 180mm f2.8 single coated "zebra" lens and I found good as or better !! than my Nikkor 180mm f2.8 ED AIS lens!! I love really CZJ lens bokeh and how their rendering green bokeh.

That picture looks like a bazillion dollars on my monitor! Just look at
those colors!

This is very well-timed as I was going to start a thread as to what is the
closest focusing wide-angle lens in the 24-28mm range.

If it was anything like one forum I used to be a member of, your image, excellent as it is, would probably be mercilessly dissected by the resident "experts" for all sorts of microscopically unimportant nano-detail to see if it met their criteria for what constitutes a competition winning image in their opinion.... Evil or Very Mad

Then someone would point out that because the DOF wasn't quiiiite deep enough to render the 5th stamen round from top completely sharp all along it's length, you'd have to go back and reshoot.

Or submit to a lesson on what constitutes good DOF.

I kid you not...

Is that really 25mm? Or rather 25cm?

Anyway, great picture!

Nice picture!

I tried a 2.5 cm extensiontube, on my 24/2, impossible because the front element touches the subject.

That lens is a monster. Although I have the Contax version, I hope to buy the new one someday.
