you must keep in mind that macro lenses are usually very sharp lenses and are not cheap
all this prices depend of the seller and are buy it now prices on ebay, but if you get lucky you might catch one of these in an auction for better price
yashinon that comes also under mamiya sekor name - prices go above 200$
kiron (also comes under name lester dine) - around 300$
macro takumar - around 120$
vivitar 55mm - 150-250$
vivitar 90mm/2.8 - over 200$ _________________ my tools:Oly E-M5 + 45mm/1.8 + Oly E-520 + 12-60 + 14-42 + 70-300 + Sigma 105mm + FL-50R + EC20 + SRF-11 ring flash

Vivitar 55mm goes 1:1 natively and usually quite inexpensive. I paid £53 for mine in M42 mount but they go for less in other mounts and on the day. |

that lens comes in many mounts, as do vivitar 90mm/2.8 and kiron 105mm/2.8
takumar and yashinon only come in m42 mount _________________ my tools:Oly E-M5 + 45mm/1.8 + Oly E-520 + 12-60 + 14-42 + 70-300 + Sigma 105mm + FL-50R + EC20 + SRF-11 ring flash

if you mean lens that is listed on british ebay with photo of the box as a main photo than it is m42 mount, because it says universal thread mount _________________ my tools:Oly E-M5 + 45mm/1.8 + Oly E-520 + 12-60 + 14-42 + 70-300 + Sigma 105mm + FL-50R + EC20 + SRF-11 ring flash

Except that the Micro Nikkor 60mm f2.8 is not really classed as a manual focus lens...Its actually an AF macro lens. And as AF is useless for macro work its better to get a manual focus version.
The manual focus version is the excellent Micro Nikkor 55mm f2.8 Ai-S. Better still is the Micro Nikkor 200mm f4 ED IF Ai-S, which offers a much larger working distance, making it much better for taking pics of shy and skittish bugs like flies.
OK, both only goto 1:2 natively, but the addition of a single screw-on 52mm Canon 500D achromatic close up lens on the front brings it to 1:1 without sacrificing sharpness or introducing CA problems...Add a second 500D on top of the first and you get razor sharp 2:1 macros too! |

I think 1:1 isn't really important, we can use extension tube. Even non macro lenses can do such thing _________________ nex5, Olympus EPM1, yashica half 14, Canon eos 650 want to see samples of mine? please click My lenses

You may be able to get this Minolta 1:2 macro on eBay @ a reasonable price.

With a 25mm tube it will yield 1:1 macros. I have it as well as a Canon FD 50/3.5 macro & they are equal in performance in my opinion but the Canon is not as heavy. _________________ Ron

For 1:1 I prefer using enlarging lenses on bellows. Buy a cheap bellows to fit your camera, an adapter, and a low/mid-end enlarging lens like 75mm f4 EL-Nikkor. Most likely the combo won't go to infinity, but it will do well at 1:1 and will likely go well beyond. |
