I know this is kind of an old topic, but what would be considered good prices for the Zeiss lenses you mention? For the 20-21mm would Nikon or OM lenses be good choices also? Considering I have a 28mm lens already are the 20mm lenses definately the better choice in order to have variety? Thanks anyone. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Going from 28mm to 20mm doesn't sound like much, but it's a huge difference.

It depends on what you like to shoot of course, 20mm is no good for portraits Laughing

Nikons and OMs are generally good lenses but they tend to be priced higher then Zeiss Jena.

Thanks for that photo guide. So the difference between the 20 and the 28 is pretty big, but between 24 and 28 not so much.
So I should focus on getting a 21 or 20.
Thanks.

since you are in Hungary you may find a 20mm Mir for a good price, see sample images here:

The difficulty I have with the exakta to eos adapters is you have to take the adapter off the camera to change the lens
where as with the M42 adapters I can leave it on the camera making it much easier to change the lenses. The M42 adapters are much cheaper also. It's nice being able to use those different exakta mount lenses though and they are usually cheaper than their M42
counterparts. ... Confused

until recently they still sold new from http://www.russianplaza.com/ but it seems that they are not selling them any more now. The slower Mir 20 f3.5/20mm used to cost 250 usd and the faster Mir 47 f2.5/20mm curiously for only 200. Used of course should be less than that, but I just checked ebay and it seems that, since they are not sold new any more, some sellers try to sell them quite more expensively now. Some still sell them for a decent price, between 150 and 200 usd for the 20M, see: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=mir+20&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=mir+20m&_sacat=0

edit: just found that this place; http://top35mm.com/ is still selling them new, but now the '20'for 270 usd and the '47' for 300 usd Sad

In Hungary there is still a chance to to get them for a budget price, but I have to be quick to buy them. I just missed out on two
opportunities for a Mir 20mm and a Flektagon 20mm. Sad
Thanks for all of this info. I feel a little embarrassed you made so much effort. Sorry I didn't thank you sooner,
but my mother-in-law slept in my den last night so I had to abandon my computer.

Japanese lenses are undervalued currently. The Yashinon 2/50 and Mamiya 2/50 are both excellent lenses, although the Yashinon I think is the better of the two. The Mamiya has distinct, noticeable boke', which is ok if you like that sort of thing. The Mamiya 28mm, and the Takumar 3.5/35 are also relatively cheap - although definitely more people appreciate them than the above lenses.
