I did win locally on a Leica IIIa body from 1936 as seller say. I am curious really. This is a gathered image from net, my copy has light green leather.

Before paying, make sure it's a real Leica. Russian fakes abund for those Leica III series.

There are sites that explain how to tell a real Leica from a fake, but I don't have the links.

Leica IIIa already in my hand, it has some strange thing like how to put film inside other ways an awesome engineering.

Smile I will do thanks! My previous Leica R lenses didn't make me to Leica guy, I am curious it will change or not when we will have good weather and I able to use in field.

I had a IIIa back int he early 90s. It was my favourite take-everywhere camera. Mine had a 5cm Summar lens that was AWFUL Laughing It was sharp but no coating on any of the optics meant it was like photographing through fog Confused

But I loved it anyway Wink

Confused Laughing I willing to use on it a 4,5/15mm Voigtlander Heliar and perhaps some Russian lenses like Jupiter-12 35mm if I can.

Why did you sold it ?

The check is pretty easy - on Russian Leica fakes emulating a plain III, the slow speed knob on front will be a dummy.

Only the relatively rare high quality Zorki 1c (which is by itself enough of a collectable that other FEDs and Zorkis get faked into it) had a slow speed mechanism matching the Leica III series. All other Russians were Leica II clones that did not have slow speeds, and the later ones evolved away from the Leica and had a entirely different shutter mechanism.

It is not economic even by Russian standards to add a functioning Leica III-alike mechanism, do a rebuild based on the Zorki Ic or do a makeover job on a very different looking late Zorki, when the street price of a plain real Leica IIIc is at or below €300. All Russian Leica III fakes with working slow speeds I've seen so far pretended to be some rare, collectible Leica variant with a much higher value (black, Luftwaffe, prototype, late model etc.).

And the rangefinder coupling tab on Leicas is a roller - only few fakes add that.

Damn it, I expected this answer, I am afraid from this too, but if will works for me I will sell something else instead. One year before I thought I never shoot again on films I was so satisfied with digital camera + manual lens combo. Many thanks for some great member here Larry, Andy, Katastropho, Orio and many more who opened my eyes how great to shoot on film. Now I learn again much as I can about films ,cameras and try to publish results to back them again to life.


If I see Larry pictures taken with film cameras and I see his digital shoots I believe film lot more better than DSLR.
